Chinese product. Only slightly better than a $20 set. Images in the product description are not of the product I received.

Disappointed! Not very smooth, but they may improve with use. I expected better from USA. Obviously, I wasn't expecting Starrett, but...

I've always liked Fowler tools. Not real real expensive but still good quality. These work fine . . . get someone to show you how to use them if you need help measuring to 0.0005 inch as that is easy enough to do.

good telescoping gage set for good price. Made in usa. The only issue I found is you have to make sure you tighten the gage enough before measuring with micrometer or the gage will move a little bit.

Having used the Fowler telescoping gauges several times, I feel in a position to rate their quality and usefulness: Four Stars. As for commentary, let's start with the following: Things aren't what they used to be.As a young man working in a large job shop in the Chicago area, I was issued a set of Starrett telescoping gauges left behind by a retired tool and die maker. IIRC, they dated from 1942. The gauges were thirty years old by the time I got my hands on them and, not surprisingly, they had a patina and softness of action that is difficult to describe. They felt good in the hand and did not require muscle to actuate. The action was progressive, predictable and, above all, soft. A gentle twist was all it took to release and lock them down again. When I left that shop and went to college, I had to return them to the tool crib.Fast forward forty years. I have used the above-mentioned Fowler telescoping gauges to measure cylinder bores, main bearings and fork sliders. They work well. They are, however, not the same as the Starrett gauges described above. The spring is fairly stout, so exercise caution when releasing them, say, within an aluminum bore. They can and will leave a dimple in the workpiece. The locking action is just a touch... crusty. However, I suspect that will smooth out with time. With a little practice you will learn how much twist will lock them down. Although not rabid in my beliefs, Fowler tools are made in the United States. That is definitely a plus.Fowler telescoping gauges are a good product, manufactured locally, that do a good job at a fair price. So, four stars it is.

I received this before I went on vacation and opened it up to take a look at them. They are a little sticky in the bores but if you work the pistons back and forth a bit it does smooth out. Hey it's even made in the USA amazingly!! The reason for three stars is I just got back from vacation and tore apart the atv motor I bought these to inspect. I got the cylinder off and was about to check the size and I looked at the sleeve the gages are displayed in and grabbed the appropriate one and it was way too small. Looking closer I realized I had two of the same size and so I came on here and seen I'm past the return window so I might as well write a review so others don't get a mixup like I did. My engine will have to sit until I can find a replacement.edited to four stars because Amazon customer service..I just got done chatting with Terence from Amazon chat and after explaining what happened they are going to let me do an exchange!! Next time I'll have to be more thorough in my examaning of items before the 30 days is up!
