Fortin EVO-NIST1 Stand-Alone Add-On Remote Start Car Starter System For Infiniti Nissan Push-To-Start Vehicles

I bought it and installed but I wasn’t able to get it programmed( which you need another $30 device to do it)

There are plenty of videos on YouTube for guides, but make sure you properly program it using the Flash Link programming tool. The default settings that go with your vehicle may not be exactly correct, so don't just assume that choosing your model and then flashing the module. I had to go in and disable the hood safety pin feature, and enable the Lock 3x to start feature. Once I did that it works like a champ.Follow-up: I installed two of these, one in an Infiniti G37 and the other in a Nissan Murano. They worked fine for a while but eventually in each vehicle they ended up draining the starter battery down. It I assume they were the culprit. Once I disconnected them the issue hasn't recurred. So I cannot recommend this unit. Changing rating to 1 star.

My opinion would be to continue shopping, I would not recommend this product.

Initially I was going to give this 4 stars since the install wasn't as simple as I thought it should be but considering that it works perfectly now that I have it installed and I didn't need any help from a professional installer I think it's worth 5 stars.I bought this for my 2010 Nissan Maxima. I looked through a bunch of reviews and I've had some experience installing a remote start system over 10 years ago so I figured this would be really easy to install. I was wrong. lol. Don't get me wrong. Installing this kit is a lot easier compared to old remote start systems that required you to splice into ignition wires but it still requires a lot of planning, research, and splicing of wires.Here's what you'll need:Fortin EVO-NIST1 (or whatever version you need for your car)Fortin Flash-Link USB ToolZip TiesWire cutters3M wire taps (or whatever kind you want)If you don't understand Fortin's product list or naming for their products, the EVO-NIST1 is basically a fortin EVO-ALL that is pre-programmed with the Nissan firmware and the box includes the Nissan wiring harness. This is the same for the EVO-TOY, EVO-FORD, etc.Although this is mostly a plug-n-play kit, some vehicles require you to splice several wires in order for the kit to work properly. In my car I had to splice into 3 or 4 wires including the door locks, tach wire, and a few others. Some of these wires have to be wired at the BCM which is positioned behind the gauges so you have to remove part of the dash and remove the gauge cluster to get to it. Not only that but you also have to unbolt the BCM from it's cage but some Nissans have security screws bolting down the BCM so you can't easily get it out.They have tools for this but they are special order and considering I had my car completely taken apart I didn't want to wait so I ended up prying it out of the cage, which actually wasn't too hard.The rest of my installation experience consisted of trying to find all of the required plugs and keeping everything tidy. The instructions are nearly useless and there are several versions of install instructions so it can be difficult to determine which ones you need. They do give you 48 hours of access to a wire-color site so I do recommend for you to download all of the PDF files from that site in case the install takes you longer than 48 hours. The main thing to keep in mind is that you need to update your firmware to the latest version for your car using the Fortin Flash-Link USB Updater tool. Supposedly you shouldn't need this since the NIST1 is supposed to come preloaded with the Nissan firmware but the problem is that it's not going to have the latest version of the firmware so it's recommended that you update it to the latest version before you install it.Once you have everything connected and in place you can connect the EVO to your laptop using the Flash-Link so you can change the necessary settings for your car. These settings should be mentioned in the instructions for your car. I wish I could help you with determining which instructions you need but I used so many that I don't even remember which ones are the correct ones.

** Great product**Installed on a 2009 Nissan Maxima SV. I had done some research for a few weeks prior to purchasing and I made the right choice. I will give you some tips below on my install.I am fairly skilled when it come to cars, not a mechanic, but I can hold my own. Total install took me 2 hours, as I wanted to make sure I did things right. A couple of musts.....1) You need to buy the Link Updater to enable options, update EVO ALL firmware2) Give yourself ample time to do install, DO NOT rush through.3) Download the most current instructions from the Fortin website.So, I opted for the stand alone version of this product. I did not purchase a long range RF antenna as that's not that big of a deal for me. Instructions were pretty straight forward. The T-harness saves A LOT of time, but indeed is not 100% plug and play. Technically, the only MUST wire connection you have to make is the push to start button. I just spliced in my wire and wrapped with electrical tape. Some say solder, ALL say DO NOT use wire taps.Now, the other wire connection I made was for the parking lights, which is exactly as the instructions say, not so bad. Also, there are a couple of optional wire connections the manual mentions like auto headlamp shutoff and lock-unlock wire connection. For these, you either have to get at the BCM (which is BEHIND the gauge cluster) or tap into the door pin wire (lower drivers side kick plate). I did neither of these as they are not MUST HAVES for me.So, for the wire splice into the push to start button, I found it easier to take the "hood" of the cluster off to get at the wiring harness for the PTS button. This is only held with 2 Phillips screws on either side of the hood. Once I took this off, I was able to comfortably splice into the correct wire of the PTS button wire harness with ease.The other connection I made was for the parking lights, which again, was pretty straight forward.Now, here are some observations I have made after completing the install....1) I am able to open my door using the factory remote AND the button on the door handle. The car DOES NOT shut off in either instance. The instructions say you have to wire into the BCM to be able to use the door handle button unlock feature. Not true.2) When you press the lock button 3X to shut car off, the parking lights DO TURN OFF almost instantly. Again, I was told by Fortin tech support that some additional wiring would need to occur so that the park lights turn off when the car shuts down.***Now, after thinking about this, they may have meant that if the remote start times out and shuts the car down, the parking lights will remain on unless you do the additional wiring. My answer to this is that I will make sure that I get in the car or shut down the car with my remote to avoid the park lights staying on***3) Once you remote start your car and get in, when you step on brake and put car in gear, the park lights turn off. I wondered about this and didn't see anything about this in the manual or website.4) On the subject of when the car is shut down either by remote or timeout......if you do not do he optional lock-unlock wiring, the car by factory programming, will unlock all the doors when the vehicle is shut off. Again, for me, it wasn't worth it to get at the BCM and make these connections. Easy fix for this is just to remember to hit the lock button on your remote to re-lock the doors, no biggie.All in all, I am VERY happy with this purchase as I have wanted a remote start for a long time, but was skeptical of someone fooling around with my wires. You just need a little patience and plenty of light. Love the fact that I can use my factory key fobs, hate the notion of having to carry 2 fobs.Good luck.
