Head snapped off on the 3rd pine log I was dragging. Very bad quality. Biggest waste of $50 I have ever had.

Makes life easier not having to climb into the truck box to kick firewood rounds to the tailgate. I've broken two tips on other brands knocking the hook into frozen log rounds. I've now used this tool and can reach into the back (from the sides) and center of the truck box, not worrying about breaking the hook on the tool. Love it!

Strong and heavy duty. Handle is a little slippery with gloves on so I wrapped it with hockey tape. 👍

Saves a lot of strain on the hands. Use 2 instead of a cant hook to roll a log for bucking. Pretty happy with this.

After about 40 days the handle started coming out. I had to insert screws to tighten it back up. Too bad the return window lapsed at 30 days. This is a very useful tool for hurricane clean up. I'm buying another one.

I did my homework on this product and even with all the negative reviews, I still thought it worth a try. As per what seems to be the norm, the head started coming loose. I partially fixed that. I'll complete it after I get to town for parts. Even after sharpening the point, there's not a chance it will penetrate the end grain on a block of oak....BUT, with a bit of practice it will stick in the bark so the block can be lifted and moved. I've never used a hookeroon before so this is a learn as I go situation. Do I like it? I'm beginning to. Do I recommend it? Kinda, sorta, maybe......jerr......followup......in all fairness to the product, I decided that a satisfaction response might be in order. I remedied the loose head problem, the lack of "traction" to grip the handle and a bit of touch up sharpening to the hook. I've been using it on a regular basis since purchasing it in Jan of 23. I'm getting close to 80yo and am totally amazed at how much more comfortable I am after a session of (hand) splitting my firewood supply. As for the mods I had to make for this to be serviceable, I feel this is something the mfgr should be doing before it's sold to a customer......j

Ok, let me begin by telling that if you have never had a pickaroon (and you cut firewood), GET ONE. I'm just not sure that the Forester is the one to get unless you don't mind making a modification or two.I bought the Forester and when it arrived, I could not wait to get into the woods. Its usefulness was dramatic and immediately apparent. (At age 58, my back was very happy to have this tool). It bit into the wood well and made moving wood much easier. However, on that first truck load, the head became loose and almost flew off. I took some pictures and contacted the seller, and they quickly agreed to send me another unit (without asking me to return the first one). I reseated the handle and then drilled a hole into the wood so I could insert a 1.5 inch screw with a large washer that would prevent the head from sliding off. Then the new one arrived. It looked identical, and before I went to the woods I performed the same procedure with a screw and washer to secure the head. When I came to the woodpile, I tried the new unit. To my surprise, I could not get the second one to stick into a piece of wood consistently. It bounced off pieces repeatedly. I could get the 1st unit to stick in one the first swing. So, I hit it with a file but that didn't help. When I got home I put it on the grinder and that seems to be working. I'll have to get back into the woods for a more aggressive test. So, yes I can make these work. But at $50, I expect better initial quality and consistency. I do like the axe like feel of the hickory handle. The 28" length is perfect for me (I'm 6'5") both when loading and unloading the truck. The light weight is also very nice. The funniest thing about the Forester is that it comes with the head in a plastic clamshell cover with the typical branding printed on an insert. The back of the insert warns the user to be sure and read the owner's manual... but there isn't an owner's manual. It also warns you to use hearing protection. I'm pretty sure that I can't make enough noise with this thing to warrant a set of ear muffs.
