Some of the instructions are English gobbledygook translated from Chinese: "When using, make the short edges boards department towards the direction of the rolling wheels in to the place." It looks like I'll need to use stakes to hold the Escaper in place under the tire: "When using, clamping the product between the tire and the ground." Anyhow, if my light weight 2007 Honda Fit gets stuck in a little mud, I'll give it a try. If the mud is not too deep, I think the Escaper might work.

Not just for snow! If you use a 4x4 on the beach, these will allow you to get free if stuck in the sand! Sure beats driving around with lumber!

Work great. Bought 3. I put it in a heavy duty garbage bag, as are messy after use and will get mud all in your trunk. Heavy duty

Two of these, folded and stacked, measure 7"x11" x 2"--easily stowable under a car seat. Probably they don't work as well as the full sized traction boards, but you have to be a dedicated off-roader with plenty of roof rack space to carry those. I judge that these would be plenty sturdy enough and work well, on snow. It might take a little more patience than using big boards would, as these are only 21.5" long, unfolded. On rocky uneven surfaces, they might be more likely to break--but in some cases they might even be better than full sized boards, as they will conform more closely to the contours, and won't have a rigid span of more than 11".

Last winter, we had a moderate snowfall, maybe 4-6 inches. We had shoveled our driveway down to the street, but a snow plow passing by left a bunch of snow at the end of the driveway. My wife pulled out of the garage, down the driveway, and immediately got stuck in this snow pile. I tried shoveling snow out of the way. Tried cat litter. Tried ice melt. It was just stuck. It was after this that I remembered I'd bought a pair of these for my old Mustang GT after it got stuck in a parking lot once. I dug them out and slipped them under the car's wheels. It pulled away almost immediately, kind of like magic.I now have one for each of our cars and keep it in the trunk. For the price, I would recommend anyone thinking about it just go ahead and buy it. I don't think you'll be sorry. My only complaint is that once you've used it, it's covered with snow, ice, and dirt. This will eventually melt and need to go somewhere. It would have been nice it this came with a waterproof case you could slip it into when you're not using it, to keep your trunk, floorboards, etc., from getting wet and gunked up.

Light weight, easy to use, cheap…. And do not work! Called a buddy up and after two hours he pulled me out with a tow strap. During those two hours I shoveled, used the tracks and made a solid effort and was still stuck. Waste of money in my opinion. Not sure what kind of mud these other reviewers were in but these do not work for Florida mud.

After having these in my trunk for several years, I attempted to use these to help a friend get unstuck after sliding into a ditch during a snow storm. We got them placed under the tires and they gripped the snow/mud under the tires and so stayed in place just fine. However, the tires could simply not get traction on them and after several attempts, the spinning tires simply melted them. The tires still had reasonable tread and should have been able to grip them without issue. After getting my friend unstuck using other means, we examined these and they are destroyed. The ridges/nubs/whatever that are supposed to provide traction are either broken off or melted smooth, rendering them worthless. They're better than nothing, but not by much and certainly not worth the price.
