It comes sharp, which cannot be said about the other brands I have ordered gouges from. I had a last-minute craft show come up, and it stayed chip free and sharp through half a dozen spoons. Flexcut blades survived and are still making spoons for me. I love flexcuts products.

The palm grip is a very nice shape and playes well the the slightly flexible gouge giving good control.As with all flexcut tools, it comes appropriately sharp and leaves nothing to be desired there.All that being said, the v is more rounded than I would like. I will keep it and find some use though since it is still a nice gouge.

The gouge is razor sharp out of the package. The gouge is very comfortable. The palm style works very well and the handle contours are perfect. I did wrap a bit of padding on the upper part of the shaft just below the handle. There is the slightest flex in the shaft, it really seems to enhance performance. Great product, does exactly as advertised, but better than that, it functions exactly like I need for it to. I will likely purchase a smaller one as well. Its perfect for the smalls that I usually carve.

If you're like me, you recently got into relief printing and have been using the basic speedball cutter for linocuts and have been wondering to yourself, "is getting a nicer cutter worth it?". 10000000%. This thing fits nicely in my hand (I'm a dude with pretty large hands, and my gf also said it fit nicely in hers and she has nice little hands) and was like cutting BUTTER with this thing. Interesting to find out that most prefer the U-gouge, I personally just want a nice thin V-gouge. To each their own I guess!Anyway, I had set up my OG speedball cutter for a U-gouge to use along side this guy and honestly I never picked up the Speedball cutter in my entire cutting session. So needless to say, this thing rules. 100% worth the money, will be buying more Flexcuts in the near future.

Flexcut tools are excellent. What else can I say. I'm a novice wood carver and I am trying different tools as I go. I have a modified plexiglass cutter, I fashion into a very ergonomic kiridashi. It works beautifully. I also have some other assorted lesser dollar knives as well as a couple at a more moderate price. All that being said, the Flexcut tools I've used are genuinely worth the cost, as they are beautiful in form and function. You really must get a tool in your hands to estimate it's value.Buy this. You could do far worse things with $25.
