You know those days after it snows or rains, when it warms up but the ground is soggy? It's the perfect time to get out and pull up some weeds! I purchased this tool to remove about 200 Musk Thistle invasive weeds in their 1st year of growth, and it worked beautifully. Use the foot lever to push the four claws into the ground, then lean the tool towards the handle, and the claws will grip down on the weeds roots. Sometimes there's a very satisfying "pop" as the entire weed comes up with its taproot.I like this tool better than the "Garden Weasel WeedPopper" because the claws are stronger. They didn't bend when I was weeding in a rocky area. The sliding ejection handle worked great even when the weeds came up as a clump of sticky mud.My only suggestion for improvement would be to make the total length another 6" longer. I'm 6'0" tall and my back was a bit sore after terrorizing weeds for an hour.

Back saving garden tool. This is wonderful for uprooting and removing dandelions and other pesky weeds. It also quickly removes seedling trees. I've even used next to our house foundation to address the long roots of tiny trees which had been cut down to the ground every year. I was able to leverage it with rocks, small clumps of concrete and maneuver it slowly where needed. The only reason it gets 4 stars is because the handle is fiberglass rather than wood or me'tal. I am careful not to over-exert pressure on the tool. It still performs better than any other plant removal tool we have ever used. It performs well regardless of user height. We have used it successfully for gardeners 5'2" to 6'.

I don't write many reviews but I had to for this. I just got it this morning and went out to tackle the dandelions. It works great. I went for this one which was a bit more expensive as I was afraid the cheap ones would not last long. You can easily recoup the extra cost by saving on chemical sprays which you have to apply at the exact right time. This works every time regardless and pulls a significant amount of the root as well. I hope to tackle the back yard over time......it's big and I have never sprayed there.Again...great product that works well. I just need a bucket tied to my waist so I don't have all the piles of weeds to go pick up. lol

This tool arrived two days ago. Due to recent rains, our normally neat yards had a surfeit of weeds and dandelions. Having read all the glowing reviews on this tool, I could not wait to get outside and try it. Within about 15 minutes of its delivery, nearly every weed in my front yard was GONE!!INITIAL RESULTS:I cannot believe how easily this tool yanked out dandelions, thistles, clover, etc., out of our soft soil.ROOTS:Does this weeder always remove the entire tap root? No, sometimes a root breaks off. I do not see this as a problem. I got the entire visible part of the weed out in about 2 seconds. Now it will take that weed weeks to grow back, if it ever grows back at all....at which time I will, in 2 seconds, extract it again!USE ON HARD DRY GROUND:This tool works better when soil is wet, or at least soft. Dry hard clay? Not so good, since the claws need to pierce the dirt. I could see somebody breaking it if they tried to force it into the adobe soil hard enough.BREAKAGE:Users’ reports of breakage concerned me somewhat, but I have not managed to break this tool so far. What are these folks complaining about? If it breaks, it has a FULL LIFETIME WARRANTY.It says this right on the handle. And I will insist on Amazon’s satisfaction guarantee. If that doesn’t work, I bought it with my VISA and will invoke their purchase protection.THIS THING IS ACTUALLY FUN.I have never owned another dandelion digging tool that was so fast and effective. It is so light and easy, it is actually FUN to dig weeds! It had my entire front lawn (and most of my flower beds) weeded in about 15 minutes after I opened the box. It weeded my entire backyard two days later. There is almost no fatigue, and very little bending over. It pulls the weed and roots out, and then you just “chuh-chunk” the handle (like a pump shotgun) to “eject” the weed into a basket. Buh-bye!! I love it.NOTE: Sometimes the weed comes out with an ounce.or two of soil attached, leaving a little crater behind. I just re-water the area and it looks fine. I see no way weeds will be able to grow fast enough to keep up with me and my new Fiskars weeder. Not unless it breaks on me...in which case, I will get another one!! See below....WARRANTY!There is actually a sticker right on the handle that says:"FULL LIFETIME WARRANTY: This product is warranted to be free of defects in material and workmanship for as long as the original consumer owns the product."In other words, this tool seems to have a strong warranty. I do not see how I could ever be upset over it breaking, if that means I can just get a brand new one for free. If you ever have a problem, they even list their 800 number for you.(866) 348-566104/12/2018 UPDATEI not had a single problem with it. This weeder is fantastic. It is actually FUN to use. I’ve been happily showing it to my neighbors and many friends. I don't often give 5 stars, but at this point, I could hardly be more delighted with it. I see why 70% of its reviewers have given it 5 stars. If FISKAR has ever denied a warranty claim on anyone’s weeder, please share your details. Remember...they provide a free FULL LIFETIME WARRANTY.THIS IS NOW, BY FAR, MY FAVORITE YARD TOOL

This is a fantastic labor-saver; if you have weeds that need to go, this is your answer.I hesitated to buy it, reading through the reviews here, because my primary weed-of-choice is a HORRENDOUS infestation of crab grass (or crabgrass, depending on your spelling preference) and the reviews were mixed--2/3 said it worked on crab grass, 1/3 said it didn't.IT WORKS. And easily.Last summer, I spent several afternoons in 112 degree Texas heat, on my hands and knees, cutting crab grass out of our St. Augustine yard. Blistered hands. Tired back. Sunburn. Bug bites. About 35 plants removed after about 5 hours of really, really hot, hard work. We'd tried killing it with weedkiller that said "safe for St Augustine"--it wasn't. Huge swaths of the St Augustine died after spraying the crab grass, which just seemed to get bigger. So, after talking to a horticulturist, we tried heavy acid vinegar. No go: "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger."Finally, my husband, in a fit of frustration, said he was going to kill it all with Round-Up and we'd re-seed the yard if we had to. So in September, he sprayed. The crab grass looked like it died. The St Augustine DID die. And this Spring--behold the miracle--green crab grass. A yard FULL of healthy, green crab grass and yellowed, dead St. Augustine. And two new puppies, which meant that re-seeding the lawn was OUT for this year. The only answer was to hand-extract the crab grass and pray that some random strands of St Augustine had survived the nuclear option. So, I found this upright weeder on Amazon, bought it, and was AMAZED that it truly worked and was EASY. No more back-breaking labor; no more blistered palms. And I'm quickly making a dent in the crab grass infestation. I've only had this for 2 weeks and have only used it for about 3 hours total, and we've disposed of 5 WHEELBARROWS full of crab grass so far. Plus some fuzzy cabbage-like weed and other odd weeds. Some hints:1. Don't try to use this on dry, hard ground. It's easiest after a good rain or the day after you've run your sprinkler system.2. Aim the center of the four "blades" at the center of your plant (for crab grass, you'll quickly learn there's less pigmentation at the center of the plant, where its "limbs" intersect--in no time, you'll develop a "feel" for this).3. I've found it works best to insert this at a slight angle (about 30 degrees, rather than straight down), then gently tamp the black "heel" of the tool completely into the ground. Use the leverage of the "heel" to extract the weed from the ground.4. Carry a bucketful of sand or topsoil with you, with a small garden shovel & fill the little "gopher holes" this tool makes. I extract about 8 weeds, then fill 8 holes. It's quicker than it sounds, but in our case, a necessity, lest the puppies learn that we're all REALLY, really into digging up the yard. You really will have to fill the divots this tool leaves behind. But in my opinion, it's worth it to get the crab grass root balls OUT. Permanently.5. This model has a great feature: it "ejects" the weed after you've pulled it, using a little sliding bar on the handle. You get the great auditory reward of a ca-ching that sounds something like loading a rifle. Just the right motivator to go after more crab grass. I've Gotcha now! (Kinda makes you feel like you're channeling Carl from ).This tool is REALLY easy to use, light in weight, and does the job. I've been very impressed with the fact that I can truly stand comfortably and successfully weed the yard.I've heard that if we can ever establish some healthy St Augustine, it will more or less keep itself weed-free--the best joke of all, I've just learned that St Augustine is a close relative of crab grass, which is why no chemical weedkiller will really kill crab grass and leave St Augustine unscathed. Who knew?Good luck with your weeding; buy one of these & you'll amaze yourself at the speed and ease of your Springtime weeding tasks--I'm really glad I bought this (and so have 2 of my neighbors, once they tried mine). Highly recommended!
