Be prepared for an emergency with the First Alert EL52-2 Two-Story Folding Home Fire-Escape Ladder. Exceptionally strong and durable, this ladder can be easily folded for storage near a window or under a bed for immediate access in case of a fire. House fires can be deadly, but the EL52-2 helps protect you and your family by providing a safe, reliable means of escape.

Escape from a Dangerous House Fire with This Strong, Durable Ladder
Fire is a serious threat to every household; it can strike anywhere, any time. The frightening truth is that in 2005, there were nearly 381,000 home fires in the U.S., resulting in over 16,000 casualties. Because of the very real threat of fire, it is vital that every household uses tools for fire protection. When used in conjunction with smoke alarms and fire extinguishers, and as part of an overall fire-escape plan, the EL52-2 is an effective last-resort tool to help you and your family safely exit a dangerous situation.

Tough Nylon/Steel Construction, Anti-Slip Rungs, and Secure Hooks
Exceptionally durable, this ladder is tested to American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards. Featuring strong nylon/steel construction and measuring 14-feet in length, the EL52-2 provides a dependable means of escape through a second-floor window during a home fire.

This ladder is easy to set up and is strong enough to help both children and adults quickly exit to safety. It arrives fully assembled and ready to use in one minute. Extra-wide hooks secure the ladder to any windowsill measuring at least 20-inches (51 centimeters) wide and 32-inches (81 centimeters) high with a sill width between a minimum of 6-inches (15 centimeters) and a maximum of 10-inches (25 centimeters).

The ladder's slip-resistant, epoxy-coated rungs provide sure footing, and steel stabilizers on each rung help keep your feet steady and balanced, preventing the rungs from swaying as you step on or off of them. For added stability, DuPont Cordura nylon strapping lends extra strength and durability, while steel construction tested to 1,125 pounds means this ladder holds up to 375 pounds at a time.

The EL52-2 comes with a six-year limited warranty.

Bought this for my son and family because they live in a two story. Gives me piece of mind knowing they would be able to get out if there was a fire. My son is a fireman and he really appreciated this gift.

I had to order a ladder so my daughter could use it to climb over the wall since the HOA cites her for parking in the visitor parking. She has to park outside of the gate (very ridiculous but so are HOAs). Ordered the ladder, it's SUPER sturdy, I had to cut more of the ladder down, so she uses about 5 feet, not the full 14 feet, however, the leftover was used to adhere to the inside of the wall and works like a charm. She can now come and go using the ladder to pop over the brick wall at ease. Best purchase ever!

Es una escalera muy fuerte, estable y con buen agarre. Es un poco estrecha si la quieres usar cómo una escalera fija pero también es funcional por el buen agarre qué está tiene.

This thing looks very well built and very sturdy - for a rope ladder. It can be a little scary climbing out a second story window on something that's clipped to the window sill, but I did it practicing and it's very easy and comfortable to climb down this thing. The steps have little legs that keep it away from the wall (don't forget you need a second story window without a first story window below it!) and the legs keep the steps just where you need them. The steps are steel with non-slip coating - very sturdy, they don't flex at all with my 180# on them.Definitely would recommend all who may use this try it out before you need it!It does fold up easily into a small space. We keep ours right below the window on the floor. Good security when you live on a cliff that's crumbling into the sea!

Let's face it, you hope this product never gets used. Our house is built into a hillside, with the front 12 to 16 feet above grade. If we can't get out of the house in an emergency, we have the option to throw this ladder over the window and escape on the high side. The unit is well made, sturdy, and in a test run it worked very well. It comes in a nice cardboard box to store under the bed. Hope we never need it, but the peace of mind knowing it is there, is worth every penny we paid.

Jumping out the second story of a burning house really didn't appeal to me. This was an excellent and reasonably priced solution. This was the sturdiest of the roll-out ladders I found and it is not too heavy for me to use. It's small enough to fit in a cabinet or closet near the window where I'll use it and it's easy to install, use and refold. I also like that it's long enough to reach near the ground. I plan to get at least one more for the other side of the house.

High quality, peace of mind to have it under the bed just in case. Had it two years and haven't needed it, but I DID use it once to get something off the roof that got up there in a storm. We lent our ladder out and was like, shoot. Just have to wait until I had an aha moment... I wanted to see if it would actually work and had someone stand below me (to break my fall I guess....?) ha. But it really did work! It's really well designed so in a panic, it's going to have a secure grip within seconds, and then you just to undo a velcro strap and the rungs fall down. I didn't have a problem with them tangling or them getting stuck/putting back together it went together like an accordion. Bravo you guys on the design and engineering!

Looks well made. I hope it will collect dust forever and that it will never have to be used in an emergency. It's as important to have an item like this as a smoke detector. It can save lives.. I definitely would recommend a safety ladder for a multi level home for fire safety.

Living in a two story house, it was important to me to make sure we have one of these in the event we should have a fire and are unable to use the staircase to get downstairs to escape. The main reason I chose this ladder is because it is not a one use ladder. It can be deployed multiple times for family drills to practice using and then repacked. Be sure to check the ladder thoroughly after each practice drill to make sure there is no damage or changes to the integrity of the ladder. The window hooks are wide enough to fit the window sills in our home (it was built in the 1930s) and are very secure. Climbing out a window and down a ladder hanging against the side of your house is not the easiest thing to do by a long shot. It's hard even when you have all the time in the world to practice, so it's important to make sure every family member is comfortable and confident in their ability to open the window, pop out the screen (if there is one), attach the ladder, climb over the sill, and climb down the ladder. As someone who is nowhere near as nimble as I'd like, knowing how to properly use this ladder and the safest and easiest way to use it to exit a deadly situation is important. When ordering a fire escape ladder, make sure you buy one that is long enough for your needs, can hold enough weight so that adults can help children down if necessary, is reusable, and is easy to use. This one by First Alert fit those criteria for us.

I bought this for my daughter who just moved into a second story apartment which is accessed through long hallways. I am a firefighter and know just how quickly hallways can be filled with choking, toxic smoke. I like the ladder's construction and quality and found it easy to deploy out of the window. The problem that I found with it was that the exterior of the building has a brick fascia which makes the wall nearly a foot thick and the portion of the hanging bracket that contacts the exterior wall, rests on top of the brick's horizontal surface instead of pressing against the vertical surface below the window. I think it will still function this way, but may not be quite as stable. Ideally an adjustable window bracket would make this a great value.
