Seems to be well made handled my weight (250) no problem. Hope I never need it, but do practice using it before you need it.

REI sells auto locking carabiner made by Petzl that are rated 7 kilo Newtons (kN), which means each carabiner can support approximately 1,575 pounds. The auto locking feature is a desirable feature because in an emergency you or a loved one may not have the presence of mind to remember or recall that the sleeve of a carabiner with a twist -lock gate needs to be manually twisted to lock the gate shut before the carabiner is used. It's also a good thing to know how much weight a carabiner is rated for if you will be depending on the carabiner to support your weight or the weight of multiple people.

So i just had to try it and i opened my third story window, flung it out to the deck below (make sure you anchor it in the house first or well... youll be making a lame trip down the stairs to pick it up) then proudly took a step out the window while calling for my girlfriend, who was screaming seeing me hopping out the window! the ladder held up well and allowed me to climb down and up several times without swinging too much. definitely would hold up during a fire.

I'm not exactly sure want I was expecting this ladder to be like before getting it, but it definitely turned out to be much more of a high quality piece of equipment than I thought it would be. This thing is definitely not some flimsy toy or tree house ladder. This is absolutely a high end, legit piece of rescue equipment. It is very well made. All the straps and rungs are super strong thick webbing, and the stitching is very robust and excessively done. The wooden dowels are also much bigger and stronger than I was expecting. I actually got this to be a tire winch ladder to go in my recovery kit for my new (to me) Jeep WK2 that I recently purchased. Also to use for trimming trees on my property so that I would only have to climb the rope once and could then attach and use this to ascend and descend. While of course continuing to use my climbing rope as a safety/lifeline to stay attached to. I just thought it would be much quicker and easier to climb up and down on this instead of SRT climbing a rope over and over. That is the idea anyways. I can definitely say that it is more than well made enough to serve both of those purposes. It actually does have a certification number of Chinese safety standards for "fall protection and personal fall protection systems". You can Google the number to read more about it. The number is GB6095-2023. Overall I think it is great and it turned out to be way more than I was expecting. It would be more than strong and sturdy enough to help you escape a high level window or balcony, even while carrying a child if you needed to. I'm quite impressed with it, see nothing wrong with it at all, and would recommend it.I would suggest upgrading the two carabiners it comes with to climbing rated carabiners when you can. Though they are adequate enough in reality, they just really don't fit the ladders loops well and are pretty cheap. These kind of carabiners are always labeled as and considered not for climbing or lifeline use. So if they aren't good enough for that then I don't see how they really can be good enough for this ladder. It would just be the safe thing to do.

I have actually used it yet, but it seems plenty sturdy. Be aware that this is way heavier than expected. I thought I could wrap it up and toss it at the top of a closet, but it's just too heavy so I've kept it tucked near the back of a closet.
