The First Alert CO710 Carbon Monoxide Alarm with 10-Year Battery and Digital Temperature Display detects dangerous carbon monoxide for up to 10 years. This carbon monoxide detector uses an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor, the most accurate CO detection technology available, to detect the CO you can't see, smell, or taste in the air. A built-in 10-year lithium battery means you never need to worry about changing batteries during the lifetime of the alarm. This stylish CO monitor is designed to sit on top of a dresser or tabletop, and it has a backlit digital display that clearly shows the ambient temperature, as well as current and peak CO concentrations. An 85-decibel horn sounds if carbon monoxide levels are too high, and a test/silence button silences the alarm and allows you to test its functionality.

Often when I am driving long distance via car, it's necessary for me to pull into rest stops occasionally to take naps, if not to sleep overnight. On those nights when it is very cold outside I will, by necessity, leave my engine and heater running to keep me comfortable inside the car (which means, to keep me from freezing to death). When I sleep in the car with the engine running I am extremely aware of the danger of possible carbon monoxide poisoning, which is an odorless and deadly gas in confined areas. I keep this carbon monoxide monitor in my car at all times, and if I nap in my car with the engine and heater running, I will just set this up on my dash to watch over me while I sleep. And the alarm, if it should be tripped due to the presence of carbon monoxide, is Extremely Loud! Keep in mind this monitor is basically meant for home use and is very loud for that reason, it is especially loud inside a car! But if CO2 should begin building up in my car while I'm sleeping, this thing is loud enough to wake the dead, so I will be able to exit the car to fresh air quickly before anything bad happens to me.I consider this an essential device for my car trips. Highly recommended for both home and car or RV travel use, this is a safety device that everyone should have.

I love that it can sit on a table top and it’s small so it’s not an eyesore. The ten year built in battery means no batteries to replace.

Carbon monoxide alarms have protected my family many times when below deck on a boat. (fumes would sometimes blow into the cabin and we couldn't smell it but the alarm knew.) We keep these in several rooms of our home and sometimes travel with them. Most recently, I invested in another one to send with my kid to college. Even though rental units and dorms are required to have a carbon monoxide detector, I don't know that they are maintained or updated when other people are responsible for upkeep. It is a tiny price to protect my family and well worth the piece of mind. This model doesn't take up much space. It doesn't need an outlet and is portable. We just set it on a shelf or dresser. It comes with a 5 year battery. I like that it serves a dual purpose of listing the room temperature too. Of course the primary reason we buy these is safety. Sadly, there are too many cases of people losing their lives or being hospitalized because of carbon monoxide poisoning in dorms, apartments, workshops, etc... Just be sure your family knows to open windows and evacuate quickly if the alarm goes off. Highly recommend.

Use this on our boat and it had gone off once when we were cooking using the alcohol stove. Nice to know when your air is compromised with carbon monoxide before you notice any any effects. Good piece of mind. Also nice to have the temperature display.

I wanted carbon monoxide detectors with a digital display and the built-in 10 year battery and these are perfect. I've purchased them before and had no issues with them. I bought a couple more for other areas of the house because they are so convenient. Place them and they'll do their job. Very convenient.

4days after I received this it went off. Yep I had CO in my home. It was the water heater! So grateful!

I moved into a very old house with very thick concrete walls, making drilling frustrating. The home I purchased came with the previous model of this detector. I saw mixed messages about whether the screws were aligned the same as the old model. Unfortunately, I found out that the screws are off by just the tiniest amount and won't fit on the old ones. It's kind of maddening that First Alert did this. I would love to just know why. Why frustrate customers like this?I am still using the new model, but I have it sitting on a shelf. This model of detector is great for those of us with old homes who can't drill into the wall. I like the unit itself. It stands on a shelf easily and it's unobtrusive. I like that it has the air temperature displayed and it has an overall modern look.I still recommend this item. Just don't buy this unit thinking that you can use the screws from the old model.

Just bought three of these to replace outdated plug in style CO alarms.Nice compact size with clear displays and easy to read warnings, should we ever have CO incident!!While the thermometer function is only a “nice to have” and not critical to the function, this item should have the ability to switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius to be sold in Canada. The description doesn’t clearly state this limitation and neither does the instruction booklet. The LCD has an element for C but there is no way to make the switch.

This is a quite small (5" x 2.5") and nice looking carbon monoxide detector that can be unobtrusively put on a dresser or hung on the wall. It shows the temperature all the time, but not that the CO is at zero which I wish it did to ensure it's doing its job properly, the only reason for a 4 vs 5 rating. Other than that, it's fine.
