But they also restrict the flow. One clump of leaf in fall or spring or a little algae and the pumping and filtration is severely diminished. I've had these in fountains and my pond. Same effect in both.

If you are pumping water from a pond or creek, there are all kinds of things in the water that can really destroy the plastic inner parts of your pump; even the nicer ones with a metal exterior have a plastic fan now. This filter bag is made of strong material and keeps the twigs and other refuse out. It's easy to just slip on and well-priced protection for your sump/pond pump.

This bag is plenty big to fit over most water pumps. Good material, just as described.
