Dynamite, little tool for splitting smaller chunks of wood or to make kindling with. It’s especially useful when a hatchet isn’t enough to master the task. If you already have a wedge started hammer head can be used to assist driving it through.

This thing is a beast. It splits wood with no problems. The weight and durability of it speaks for itself. I camp alot and need to split and cut wood for my small wood stove and this is one of my "goto" tools I rely on. I recommend this item.

If you split kindling, do yourself a favor and get one of these with a 4# head. Very efficient and you can make a pile of kindling in short-order. Well balanced but be careful - wear eyewear and leather gloves.

I bought for splitting wood for a wood stove. I have never split wood before and picked this for its quality. I can confidently and effector split wood with this! The weight is great and the handle length is comfortable and safe. The blue color does wear off, but it wears evenly and doesn’t chip.

Not just an axe. This thing is a wonderful tool Heavy head to hammer if needed, sharp blade, one piece and solid. The weight is perfect for slicing wood to a smaller size to burn better when camping. Didn't think I'd love this tool as much as I do.

I grew up with wood stoves in WV in the early 70's and still have one now at 57 yrs old. This tool is the best I've owned. I've had this one for a little over a month and I don't write many reviews. This one deserves a good review. Some say it's too heavy at 4lbs but I guess I'm just a bigger fella but I think it's just fine for splitting cut firewood for my wood stove. Like I say I love this tool. 5 stars. Good Job Estwing!

If you split kindling, this is excellent. I split in my garage on an as-needed basis when starting a fire. Nice weight to it. Feels like excellent quality - no more loose head on a hatchet as this is all one piece and has a nice sheath.

This is a very sturdy axe! It’s built very nicely. It is very heavy to hold, but good quality! The blade at the end is very sharp! Perfect for splitting wood!

Size does matter, and at 4 pounds these are a serious tool, and not your average hatchet.I have many Estwing products, and love the Estwing quality! I have been using their hammers in the mid 1980's, and have never had an issue with any of them! Still have my old ones.The 4 pound splitting ax is fantastic. Where a hatchet can be challenging splitting wood, the shear weight of this one makes ALL the difference. I have one next to my fireplace, and bought a second one for camping. They just do a fantastic job.Highly recommended.

I split about 2 cord worth of birch to give it a test and within a day I had it all split- this little thing packs a great punch and its really fun and super efficient to use. I can split with a single hand AND two hand for a stronger swing- it's great! Highly recommend- especially for the price. For those who don't need a massive splitting sledge this is definitely the next best thing.
