Initially very impressed. Install was fairly painless, plenty of YouTube videos to follow. Having a gear puller makes it very easy. Cut quality is exceptional - I have used a $4k PM helical head jointer and this cuts just as well. Super quiet. Build quality seems great. And to top it all off, it was packaged like a precious work of art so you can be confident that it will arrive undamaged.One last remark: it wasn’t initially clear to me that it would be compatible with the late 90s short bed Powermatic model 054 that I snagged locally. It was a perfect fit. Now for about $800 I have a machine that rivals any new 6” jointer on the market!

This was so easy, it took right at an hour to install on my Jet 6 inch jointer. You will need a three jaw gear puller, and I found taking the knives out of the old head first gave the puller a better bite. I watched a video put out on YouTube by John's Tiny Woodshop that helped see how to do the change over. I would suggest you watch it.It's quieter than standard knives and puts a super smooth finish on the wood. I also took the time to wax all of the surfaces since having it torn down just made it easier to do.I wasn't sure about using an off brand, but when I opened up my Jet, there were Elephas parts they use.

I started the installation of this cutter head on my Powermatic 54A and when I opened the new bearing box it was noticeably smaller than the existing one. So I emailed Elephas to report the problem. My mistake was assuming both bearings were the same size. They are not. My mistake totally. So I continued the process without any issues. It took about an hour but most of that was just doing a deep clean of all the parts.In the meantime, Elephas replied and offered to help and asked for bearing numbers in the package. I replied back with my apology for wasting their time. The exchange was timely and very courteous.But the bottom line is that my jointer now runs quieter, smoother, and produces an astoundingly smooth finish even on figured cherry. I am extremely pleased with my purchase and will recommend Elephas products to all my woodworking friends.I have installed Shelix cutter heads on machines at our Guild workshop, but the last installation was on an 8” Powermatic jointer. The design was strange with an oddly aligned outside cutter that contacted the jointer body. Byrd insisted the design was correct and suggested we grind the jointer housing for clearance. I was not impressed. We just left that cutter off, but the experience was enough to make me look elsewhere. I can say that Elephas will be the go to cutter going forward. Less expensive, and it comes with extras like spare inserts, screws, bearings, and tools to change inserts. Very happy I tried a new option.

Rolled the dice on this cutter head for my Ridgid 6" jointer. I couldn't be more satisfied with this purchase. Installation only took about 15 mins. This cutter head completely transformed my machine. It cuts perfectly, without leaving any grooves like some helical head cutters. Operation is super smooth, and the noise is drastically reduced while cutting. I've been using this head for over a year now and haven't had one issue. Would definitely recommend 10 out of 10.

This was an excellent buy. Great price, superb packaging, and very easy install.My knives were dulling (again) on my 54A. I had sharpened and replaced them in the past. I decided to upgrade the cutter head. I chose wisely.If I don't count the trip to get a bearing puller, it took less than 45 minutes to replace the head.The new bearings fit perfectly. It was nice to have them provided, along with extra cutters. The other name brand options out there maybe you pay extra for these.Could not be happier with the upgrade. Quieter, better finish, and (presumably, at this point) should stay sharper much longer than my old set. When they full, I just rotate 90° and I'm back in business.If you are thinking about upgrading, this product will not disappoint.

Hopefully this will help someone in the same situation I was in. I got this as a replacement for the cutter head in my old Delta 37-190 jointer. The product page didn’t say if it was an exact fit but I can confirm that it works great and installation was relatively painless. Marc Spagnuolo on the Wood Whisperer YouTube channel has a super helpful video that walks through the basics for changing out a jointer cutterhead since the Delta manual is useless. Cut quality is excellent compared to the old stock cutterhead and I highly recommend this upgrade if you want to get a bit more life out of your old jointer.

Easy to install. No fine tuning needed as with conventional blades. Works well. Smooth cuts for the most part.
