Useful toaster design. Handy for all those old SATA drives you never know what is on, or if you want to reformat. Cloning is good but only works if the target drive is equal to or larger in size as the source drive.

My faughter’s laptop always slow launching app or doing anything. I bought a fast SSD Drive. The drive in the laptop an older SATA drive. SATA drive painfully slow. I had taken the SATA drive out. Read the instructions for cloning. Slots marked Source and Target. Carefully inserted each drive. Then plugged in power and pressed button on back and let power up. Instructions showed to double press the button on front that that says Clone. Blue lights on each drive on top flashing. A flashing progress bar on front. Took 1 1/2 hours to clone from 500GB SATA 2.5 to 512GB SSD. SSD is rated to get up to 550 Read. I installed Samsung Magician and shows read speed 445. That’s a huge jump from a SATA drive that gets around 53 mb/sec. Installed powered up and at first had issue and rebooted. Windows 11 installed updates obviously for new drive and booted to login. Apps now load faster and boot time cut. Laptop has Intel 1.1 GHz processor, maximum memory 8 GB and 512 GB SSD. Hp Support when I called asking questions was terrible. Told me can use another 8 GB of memory. Had to open laptop to figure out. Only in memory slot. No M.2 option only SATA or SSD 2.5 slot. I couldn’t find serial number. HP support didn’t know. It was in the BIOS.

These kind of drive docks/cloners can be really useful things, and I'm glad to say this one works well, but there are a couple of minor issues. The docking station arrives attractively presented in a sturdy Cenmate branded box. Aside from the unit itself, there's also a power adaptor, a USB 3.0 cable, and a set of instructions. It's worth noting that the USB cable has a proprietary connector for the unit end and a swappable USB A/C connector for the computer end.The build quality of the unit is OK. It's quite light and a bit plasticky, but it's fine for what it is. The indicator lights on the front are decently bright. The loading mechanism for drives could be better, I think. Small 2.5" SSD drives are held pretty firmly, but larger old-style drives tend to wobble back and forth quite a bit as there's no support. One thing worth noting is that this docking station won't accommodate older IDE drives, so look elsewhere if you're hunting for a way to rescue data from extremely old drives. There are two slots in the unit which will take 2.5" or 3.5" hard disk drives - one slot is for the source drive and the other for the target drive. With just two clocks of the front button, you can clone one to the other, and there's an illuminated progress bar so you can monitor the transfer. You just have to be sure the target drive is of a larger capacity than the source drive, otherwise it won't work. You can, of course, also use this as a hard drive reader. When attached to a computer, the one or two drives you plug in are immediately recognised by the operating system and you can copy and write to them as you would with an internal or external HDD. Transfer speeds are very good.Minor niggles aside, this is a very handy device. I found it to be extremely useful to rescue some files from an old drive I'd removed from a PC. If you're a keen computer builder, then it's a great thing to have around. It's also a great way to utilise older drives for backups and storage.

I had an earlier version of this and was able to wreck it by inserting a HDD upside down and pushing hard because connector didn't click.Don't Do That. This one is a little better. It costs less and can handle bigger drives (18tb vs 14tb)Better and cheaper. Gave the last one 5 stars so how could I give this one less?Came with a weird USB 3 to USB C cable but it seems to work as fast as the other one (USB C to USB C).Have not tried the clone feature.

I have SSD drives I use as my primary PC C: drive that I typically clone every month in case of disaster. Disaster struck so I replaced the disaster drive with my backup clone. All was well until I tried to clone the new, good, drive to the one I had to take out. My reliable cloning software refused to work. No other cloning software wanted to work either. Since I hate not having a good clone backup I decided to try this unit. It was a life saver. It cloned my drive perfectly in 65 minutes (1TB SSD). So good, that I immediately cloned another 1RB SSD I had so I now have TWO good clone backups. I don't have a need for a dual-drive unit for offline storage so I cannot attest to it's function in that role.

After took the hard drive out of my crashed computer, I was on the hunt to find a way not to lose a single byte of the data, the only way I know, is to clone the old drive, install the cloned one to another computer without damaging the original drive! This dual bay clone ducking station is a life saver, copies very fast for my 1TB Drives, all you have to do is follow the instruction. (P.S. I did purchased 1Tb equal size hard drive, in order to clone my drive)Thanks for this clone station, it really saved my life and all my data.

The CENMATE Dual Bay Hard Drive Docking Station with Offline Clone arrived in a retail box inside the outer carton. Inside the box there was the docking station, USB C/A cable and an instruction leaflet.I got it as I have a number of drives that I removed from broken or upgraded laptops and desktops over many years that I wanted to be able to check before I physically destroyed them without having to go through the faff of putting them into an enclosure. This is a great product that is easy to use and will read both 3.5 and 2.5 inch SATA drives. It is easy to connect the drives, and while I haven’t used the clone function yet it’s good to have as I may well need it in the future. Overall this is a good product that works well.

I requested this for just basically seeing what was on the drives I have.I have built my own PCs for many years and on doing a bit tidying up and clearing out the garage I have found a storage box full of old HDDs and I do not have a clue what is on them, so I thought this would be a good idea, and it was as I found some things that bought back a lot of memories and some stuff I thought I had lost, like some old emulation roms and some old pictures. I did like that it could read both drives at the same time in windowsAs I only wanted it for this I did not try or use the clone feature this has, although that would have been handy years ago but not too much now as SATA drives are sort of in decline and my PC now only has 4 M2 NVMEs drives, my only SATA drives are the ones in my large external drives which I use for back up and storage. In conclusion, a great device that bought back many memories for me.

I got this for it's cloning abilities. I loved that it could operate as a stand alone cloner. And, at it's price point, it delivers well.Plug in two drives (one source and one target) hit the clone button and off it goes. It's not fast by any means. It took about 2.5 hours to clone a 1TB SSHD drive to a 2TB SSHD drive. And the lights aren't nearly as clear as the listing shows. You can see in my picture the LEDs are bright and bleed across the device. That said, if you look face on, you can tell what the completion percentage is. Once all of the lights stop blinking and it's steady at 100%, the process is done.It feels a bit flimsy, but once again, for the price it's hard to go wrong.

I've already got one of these, but my existing one isn't as good. I'll get on to why in a minute. If you're upgrading a computer, moving to a new one or doing repairs, this is handy. Yank the hard drive out of a laptop and then what? Fit it in your desktop machine? That's a hassle - and you're going to have to take it out again afterwards. These hard drive docking stations make it easy to stick a drive in and read the contents. Now here's where this one is better. My old one needs to be plugged into a computer. You need to copy all the files over to the computer. Then copy them onto the new drive. That's fine, but it takes a while and eats drive space on your computer. This has a single button cloning. Shove in the old drive, shove in the new one, press the button and it does it all itself with no need to involve a computer. It's so much faster and more convenient. There's not a lot else to say. It does a specific job and it does it well. Sure, you can do it other ways, but those are much more hassle.

I do a lot of PC building and fixing, and having something like this is really convenient. Generally I don't actually like cloning drives, as I think that reinstalling windows and copying what you care about most is better at keeping all my things clean of bloat and stuff I'm never going to use. However, being able to try and just clone a drive to something in case of hardware failure, or SSD upgrade to let people back up stuff themselves with the press of one button is invaluable. It's good at doing this, and it's great that it can do it without a PC connected.I haven't had the opportunity to try with encrypted drives, for example bit locker or something, but seems to work well with windows and Linux, although I can't see why it wouldn't.When using it as a dock, both drives read well, and usb 3 is faster than most HDDs anyways, and even a lot of data ssds to be fair.It doesn't look great but it's also inoffensive if you want to leave it out, but it's easy enough to set it up and I don't use this sort of thing frequently enough to keep it on my desk to care much about this.Only complaint is that given it's a one click HDD clone, it would be nice to see a lock or something on that button so it's not accidentally hit. I haven't tried or thought about accidentally knocking and interrupting it, but cloning should be something I have to very intentionally do.
