Product Description

Black Beauties electric guitar strings with K3 Technology. The K3 coating is the first coating that players report, "sound as good or better than uncoated strings." DR's remarkable and proprietary K3 Technology coating is the first coating that makes no apologies and no excuses for not delivering sound equal to uncoated strings. Players tell us that these strings have more volume, less unwanted overtones, greater clarity and articulation than standard, uncoated strings. Yet, they provide the same protection due to corrosion and perspiration as well as increased tone life that coated strings are known for.

From the Manufacturer

Terrible strings. They look good before using but sound muffled and muted. After first use the black wears off and it's a waste of money

I learned many years ago about how DR strings stay in tune and out lasts other brands. I normally use pure nickel. The feel stays new for a long time and the tone is good. So when I had a project for a black string I of course checked out the Black Beauty's. They look awesome and sound great I've had them on for months now and the color still looks new ( and I play alot). I would highly recommend.

I ordered this guitar strings for a 7 string Lapsteel Guitar I'm building, I'm totally delighted with the outcome.I setup the guitar to an Open D7 tuning, the results are amazing to say the least, the strings in combination with the Humbucker pickups produce a very rich deep melodic tones.I'm totally impressed & would highly recommend this strings to anyone looking for a fantastic sound from there insterment.

I don’t play well enough to talk about the sustain, tone, or whatever, but they look f’n amazing on my all black Jackson rig. They do turn back to silver pretty quick. They seem to hold tune for a good long while too. They feel great under my fingers.

I like that these strings last a long time and don't break easily. The color is a nice addition. I had a guitar that needed black strings. These fit the bill and worked great. They are definitely rust resistant and hold the tuning well, and they're comfortable to play. The coating is nice and they are bright.

I've been playing with flatwound strings for over twenty years. On a whim I chose to try Black Beauties. I usually play 7-string guitar but I do have one 6-string Hofner with custom pickups that I consider my secret weapon. I first purchased a pack for the six-string. I was very pleasantly surprised. They weren't as smooth as what I've gotten used to, but the are smooth enough. "String-Noise" is negligible and everything about them is perfectly balanced. The tone is perfect, not too harsh, not too dull. The most impressive thing I've found is that the tone itself across all six strings is just right. Other brands, the bass strings can be too bassy, and the trebles can be too shrill. I next purchased a pack for my Carvin seven-string. I'm sticking with Black Beauties on all my guitars. I really, really like them.P.S. My original review was written March 7. This update is on the 12th. I just read a bunch of other reviews on these strings and I just don't understand. People are saying that the coating is coming off and the strings are breaking, and I just don't get it because I've not had any problems at all. I am very rough on strings. I pull on them, tug on them, and basically kick the crap out of them because if you don't do that, they constantly go out of tune. My picking style may not be as aggressive, but I torture my strings and make sure they hold up. Once again, in my experience, these strings are very good. They've been on my Carvin just a little less than a month, and they've been on my Hofner for just a little over. I do play everyday, but each guitar goes through about a week of action before I switch off again. I personally have not had any problems.

I have never used coated strings before but thought I would give them a whirl. I have used DR blues strings and they are great. I like that DR are made in US and are overall good quality merch. I was disappointed in these simply because the coating is already starting to come off and I have literally only had them on a day. With the shiny metal underneath becoming exposed it really shows in contrast to the black. When putting them on the guitar I noticed some of the coating stripped when I was using pliers to crimp the ends but figured it was just the abrasive metal causing the issue. I've played on these maybe two hours so far and already the coating is stripping in the area between pickups where I strum the most. The sound is good and the coating makes sliding less frictiony, but the durability of the coating does not appear to be long lasting. I'm going to keep them on there for now as they sound fine but I will probably not use coated strings again after this.

Casual player, bought these to spice up by black guitar.they look great, and play great and feel really good on my fingers. The 'g' string, though, lost its coating around the playing position after only a few days - and although it still plays fine, it looks a little scruffy.Give them their due - I contacted DR strings, and they offered to replace it - great customer service indeed.(I declined the offer - honestly it's fine to play, and mailing from USA to AUS will probably cost more than the cost of the string!)Will certainly buy again!

Wow really surprised at how loud these coated strings are I usually have elixirs on everything but these are just as good on my electric guitar for sure if not better! I just put them on so I will see in a month if they stand up to my sweaty hands. So far the black coating stays on the strings and only the strings. Good price too.

I actually really like the sound of these strings, and I actually really like the feel of the coating. They hold their tune, they have a nice, sweet tone, and by all rights are a really high quality string. However, the coating chips off very easily and very readily. With even light use, little lines form over where the frets are on the neck, and if you use a pick, the coating is scraped off only after a couple uses. It doesn't affect the feel or the sound of the strings, but given such a stark contrast of black coating against bright silver of the metal, the places where it rubs off are very obvious. I think having brightly colored strings is a novelty to begin with, so I'm not going to bemoan that too terribly much. Overall though I think I am a fan of DR if their normal strings sound as good as these do.

I just put these on a Les Paul I have. First of all the strings look great although I am sure after time they will fade or the coating will come off. The looks are a bonus. They sound great. I played some old school rock for about an hour and I must say that they have a good sound to them. i was worried that the coating would take away some of the vibration on the strings on the longer notes but it doesnt. Thay sound good and I would say that they are well worth the money.
