I had been using a cheap leather awl for years...I'm not sure why!?! This leather awl is phenomenal! It fits my hand well, looks good and works flawlessly. I have stuck myself a couple of times because I was not use to an awl that would penetrate leather with such ease. This awl really works well and is a great addition to my inventory of leather tools. I will probably by another one!

I used this awl to punch holes in leather. It is very sturdy, easy to hold, has a very sharp point and was perfect for my project.

Excellent: finish, sharpness, quality all top tier. Makes lining up stitch holes a breeze. Throw away your old, cheap awls. 👏👍

Looking at the "book binding kits" almost all have some sort of awl and all of those looked cheap. As one of the most use tools in book binding, I did not want to skimp on this tool. The haft is smooth and the couture assures a positive grip and won't slip whether holding it like a pen, a knife, or palming.

The last one lasted from the mid 70's. It finally broke at the tip. This one is better constructed, more comfortable handle and has a more uniform shaft diameter. I even kept the box because the foam insert is so perfect for storage and will protect the handle and the tip from rattling around in my leather worling tool box. I have already used it several times and it pierces heavy leather without excessive force. My old one required a mallet to drive through saddle leather, this one I can pierce holes for stitching without a mallet.
