Look this DVR as it records up to 16 things at the same time, not that I do. Also has Prime Video, Netflix, and Youtube app built in

After I got this and hooked it up, it would not activate.Dishnet told me there was still an open charge on the box yet to be paid.Previous owner never paid their PPV bill so the box is non-activated.Dishnet sent out a tech and new box and 10 minutes later I got TV again.

Not only does this unit allow you to record up to sixteen, yup that's 16 channels at the same time (though I can hardly imagine the need to do that) but the video quality in the picture in 4K is absolutely phenomenal! If you have an older installation of a previous Hopper, you'll need to order and swap out your old hub and replace it with Amazon Part #B01FL3TPTW for an additional $10, but it is soooooo worth it! Save yourself OVER $100 from what Dish will charge for the same Hopper 3! Took less than 10 minutes to swap out the Hopper and get it reprogrammed with Dish Tech Support on the phone, and another 10 minutes to swap out the hub. My family loves the new Hopper and I'm sure you will as well. Enjoy!

I switched from having 2 of the 722 Dish DVR's to the hopper 3 for the extra tuners. The hopper 3 has a lot of bugs as stated in other reviews and I think it was a big mistake for it to be introduced without being debugged first. Instead of staying with the operating system in the current DVRs it has all new software. While Dish has never in my opinion been great at On Demand the new menu system makes it harder to find a show you search for and in some cases it won't find a show you're looking for without going through a bunch of annoying steps - another bug. The thing that bothers me most is the picture in picture function. Instead of having the activate and switch the tuner function as a button on the remote like the previous system it is a menu item now with more annoying steps to access it - and PIP is not even available on the Joeys so you only have PIP on the main TV. I've stayed with Dish for many years just because of the DVR functionality but this one is so bad that I'll be changing service once my contract is up. The 16 tuners are great if you need that many. I wouldn't recommend this unit until they get the majority of the bugs fixed. or if you need the 16 tuners.

Since we already had the Hopper 2 (w/ Sling) and the hybrid hardware setup, installation was as easy as changing out receivers. Purchasing here was cheaper than going to Dish, so I'm happy.

Been testing/using Dish Hopper since Hopper 1. Although Hopper 2 had Sling built-in, Dish kept sending me new Hopper 2's to try and solve continuing problem with shows I recorded. In the first 2 minutes of playback, the picture would go "mosaic" and audio would disappear. This happened with EVERY recorded show. The latest Dish interface was also running VERY slow on my Hopper 2. Communicating with Dish personnel at 2017 CES Show, convinced me that upgrading to Hopper 3 (H3) should solve my problems. On 1/20/2017, Dish installer arrived to swap the LNB on my roof dish (new node required for 4K), install H3 and Joey 2.0 boxes. Jose Lopez (Halo Prime installer for Dish in Henderson, Nevada) deserves MUCH of the credit for my PRO comments here. China gets credit for the CON below.Despite gusty wind and light rain, Jose climbed a 24' ladder and replaced the dish LNB. We then spent the next 90+ minutes TRYING to get the Hopper 3 to link to internet through the HIC (little box with 3 indicator lights). The H3 would not link to internet. Then the H3 started rebooting itself at random. CHINA SHIPPED A DEFECTIVE HOPPER 3. Jose grabbed a new H3 off his truck at my insistence. I told Jose to head for his next appointment because I have the skills to hook up and activate a Hopper. Quick call to 800# and the second H3 was live with perfect internet connection and no random reboots. Contrary to what journalists have reported on other websites, I had ZERO problems restoring my timers from my former remote control (model 40) and importing my recorded shows from my external hard drive via the USB port on H3. WARNING: If you are doing this yourself WAIT until the entire guide has been downloaded to your new H3 BEFORE you try to restore your timers. You should see a "Dish Anywhere" pop-up on your TV screen which will mean it's now safe to restore your timers.New Model 52 remote. I use a Harmony One remote to control TV, Dish, Home Theatre System, Blu-Ray Player, DVD/VHS and connection to my desktop PC (55" 4K TV acts as 3rd monitor) so I was VERY concerned about the Logitech remote working with the H3. YEAH! Didn't have to change anything on Harmony One remote so the new Dish 52 remote will be my spare remote. Same can't be said about using my Harmony 350 remote to control the Joey 2.0 box. Logitech app does not currently have the proper codes so I am forced to use the Dish 52 remote for my kitchen TV and Joey 2 control instead of my favorite Harmony 350 remote. The STOP button. Hopper 3 & Joey 2 customers have complained about the missing button on Model 52 remote controls. I concur, but the new way of doing things is not totally idiotic. The STOP symbol is normally a square so when you want to stop a recording, press the large square SELECT button.BEST news about my new Hopper 3 is that NOT one of my recorded shows is going mosaic or losing audio. The interface responds faster. Picture quality on my Samsung UN55JU7100 4K TV is definitely brighter and sharper than it was through the Hopper 2 and former node. With multiple sports on TV at same time today, I can use the new Sports Bar Mode to watch 4 of them at same time and even be recording up to 16 channels at the same time.BOTTOM LINE: If you can afford a few $ extra a month and have a Hopper 1 or 2, upgrading to Hopper 3 is definitely worth it.
