About this item

  • Ultra-accurate 0.5PPM TCXO clock for rock-solid tuning
  • Custom design with dual ESD protection on antenna input
  • Genuine & verified E4000 tuner IC for a receiving range to 2300MHz+
  • Small & light
  • Fantastic for portable applications

Meet the XTR+. XTR stands for eXTended Range. Containing an ultra-rare E4000 tuner chip, these devices are capable of receiving frequencies all the way up to 2300MHz. As with other SDRs, the exact frequency range capability varies somewhat from unit to unit.

As a 'plus' version, this model contains an ultra-high-accuracy, GPS-rated, made in Japan +/- 0.5PPM TCXO oscillator. What does that mean? Rock-solid short and long term tuning accuracy, in nearly any temperature range. Nifty!

For those who are unaware, the maker of the E4000 integrated circuit, Elonics, went out of business years ago. As a result, E4000-based USB sticks are very hard to find. There are plenty of unscrupulous sellers selling 'E4000' or 'E4000-upgrade' SDRs, but every one that we know of are selling USB devices with other tuner chips to unsuspecting customers. Thankfully, you won't have that problem with NooElec!

Yes, these are REAL E4000-based SDRs...guaranteed! After looking and negotiating for over 2 years, we finally managed to obtain the remainder of the E4000 integrated circuit in limited quantities. Once these are sold out they will not be available again, anywhere.

In terms of size, the NESDR XTR is closer in size to the NESDR Nano than the NESDR Mini & NESDR Mini 2. The shell is 43.0mm in length (excluding male USB plug), 20.0mm in width, and 10.0mm in depth.

An important advantage of the XTR is its lower power consumption, which can be critical for portable and embedded applications. The XTR has a current draw of approximately 170mA at 5v DC, approximately half of the power consumption of the NESDR Mini, NESDR Mini 2 & NESDR Nano.

It is important to note that E4000 has a 'gap' in it's frequency capability, known as the 'L-band gap', around 1100MHz-1200MHz range (exact location varies from device to device). In our own testing, we find that the E4000 performs better starting near 1500MHz and higher.

È di qualità scadente, inferiore ad altri modelli che costano moltissimo meno. Inservibile per le mie esigenze. Sono rimasto deluso.

I bought this a while ago and I've never been able to get it to receive anything unless the transmitter is sitting right next to the antenna. even on the FM broadcast band it's completely deaf. the R820T devices I have all work with the same antenna (the one that came with the XTR+ Tiny), so I know the problem isn't the antenna.

Works great - I know this shouldn't be possible but I am seeing RF in the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz ranges.Fit and Finish is great, I have a couple NooElec SDRs and they all work better than advertised.

This thing is a super radio scanner for your computer. Don't install the drivers that come with it, save yourself the trouble and follow the instructions you get via email. I would suggest you -not- purchase the antenna combo unit, the antenna it comes with is quite bad. Pretty much unusable to be honest. I bought a TRAM mag mount and a BNC to MCX connector and my experience is completely different. The number of settings is a bit overwhelming, but keep learning what each one does and in no time you'll have it down.

Holy Toldeo, is this thing neat ! A friend turned me onto this dongle. We are both ham radio operators and this is perfect for experimentation. It is very sensitive for VHF/UHF/AM-FM monitoring. If you want to use it for ham radio bands you will need to purchase the NooElec (or other brand) Upconverter, which I did. Using the free, or paid, Software Defined Radio (SDR) software, of your choice downloadable from the net (I use HSDR & SDR Sharp) allows you to see the band you are monitoring, via waterfall on your laptop or desktop computer. The dongle comes with a small antenna and magnetic mount. I strung a random longwire just for the dongle and while the included antenna works well, the long wire allowed me to easily receive short & medium wave signals. I recommended this specific dongle as it has a true TCXO to prevent signal drifting. Delivery was quick and the price was right.

You might read my review of several R820T2 SDR & DVB-T NESDR Mini 2+ units - This is indeed a somewhat better performing unit for range only. I get better range on both ends of the spectrum - Both SDRSHARP and HDSDR recognize this unit - So if you have an 820 running, you can just remove that one and install the e4000 (or swap between them only having to restart the SDR program) Are they as good as a good ham receiver? "No," but these NOOELEC modules cost between $17.00 and $40.00 - My ham radios are in the thousands! These modules are a spectacular way to check out SDR! (software defines radio) The latest Mini 2+ unit performed better though, in every other category. Both are excellent units. I did think though, that this was supposed to perform better than the MINI 2 + units. It definitely did not. see pictures The 1st one (#1760) is the Mini 2+ and the 2nd is the e4000(#1761) on the same antenna seconds apart on the same frequency

This worked for about 3 weeks. It would just randomly go dead. I had to unplug it and plug it back in. Would work for a little while longer then go dead again. It was very hot. More so than the other R820T2 dongle I bought from NooElec. I returned it for a refund.
