Has a quality feel to it, and the plastic storage case is of surprisingly good quality. The software comes on a CD-R disc, which I have no problem with. I'd rather pay for the product and not for professional software CD publishing, especially since most people would likely prefer to download the software rather than mess with the included CD.I don't intend to use the manufacturer's software, and didn't bother downloading or installing it. The manual defines the simple serial protocol that can be used to interface with it either using custom software or a terminal program (such as Hyperterminal or Putty). I contacted the manufacturer to learn the baud rate is 38400 before realizing that it is printed elsewhere in the manual. The manufacturer did respond quickly with the requested info. Note that the 'l' command gives the current reading but does not provide the current mode. The 'x' command includes the current reading and mode, which is more useful for my application.I'm very happy with this purchase and glad that I chose this over the cheaper option. Five stars without hesitation here.My only suggestion for improvement is USB charging. They include an AC adapter and the battery seems to last a very long time, but according to the manual it sounds like the USB interface is only for data and the AC adapter is required for charging. I'd rather not have to keep up with this adapter, and will generally be using this with USB connected. Not a big deal though.

I must be the guinea pig here. All 5 star reviews... really? I am impressed with the hardware quality. The display seems to update pretty quickly. The software is absolutely atrocious. One review mentions using the older version 1.5 - this seems like better SW but requires a COM port! The unit has USB and a PS2 interfaces only. I rarely get the SW to update live numerical data. I can get it to create plots but I cant save the plot's data points - only a PNG type graphic file or picture of the plot. It will download max and min, but no point to point intermediate data. A "save to excel" saves min, max and often a zero for a single point. None of the keyboard commands mentioned in the manual work at all. The USB cable I got was bad and I had to replace it - no big deal, that's easy - but I need the SW plot data! So, pretty much I can measure min or max force and manually write it down. I got a 3% agreement at 2.01 lbs (postal scale) and 2.08 for this unit - I can work with this. The 2.08 measurement was hanging, hand-held - and thus not fixtured and somewhat a dynamic measurement.I will gladly change my review if I can get working SW. This has 4 star potential.

Awesome force gauge. Does everything that the expensive models do and then some. Computer connectivity is great. Download the old graph version from their website. The newer version doesn't work as well.
