As a studio and stage rock musician, I'm always looking for new gadgets, but as I'm getting older, protecting my hearing is becoming more of a concern as I'm noticing some hearing loss. I also work in a church where many people are sensitive to noise levels and admittedly, we can get carried away with the volume in worship, so having a decibel meter is a must. Out of the box, it's a pretty simple little device, not unlike others I've used in the past, however, it's quite a bit more compact than all the others. This didn't concern me as even a cell phone can be DB ready with the right app, albeit a poor one, so I'm not surprised they could fit all that hardware into a small package. I already appreciate the USB-C recharge function as I'm tired of buying batteries and the display is far more intuitive and functional than other devices of the same price and higher, which are generally black and white. The grip is a nice addition (most don't have that) so I don't drop it and the extensive data logging is fantastic! I've been waiting for this feature so I don't have to go back in my memory to recall when a noise complaint is lodged. Not sure I'll ever use the pressure analysis, but it's cool to know I can take this into multiple environments. Thank you to whoever designed this. They know sound and the industries around them and have developed a solid DB reader (with a good mic) that I'm confident I can trust.
