Cut external and internal threads in wood to create clamps, jigs, toys, furniture, and fixtures with the Deadwood Crafted Tools Wood Dowel Threader Machinist Tap Die Set. Create round holes with the bolt chaser die and then create threads to attach dowels to the new hole with the wooden dowel threader box. Attached stopper on wood dowel threading kit box can enforce a halting point for your dowel threads or can be removed to thread entire length. Steel insert nut die and aluminum thread cutter work best with straight-grain hardwood, softwood, and round dowels. Use a drill bit to start a hole before threading. Thread box and tap allow easy chip clearance and a tight-fitting, strong wood thread. Thread box and tap kits available in 1/2x8TPI, 3/4x6TPI, 1x6TPI, 1-1/4x6TPI, 1-1/2x6TPI. The die is fine. The tap is not. They did nothing to clean up burrs after grinding the flutes and applied the coating over them, probably making them even harder to remove. It took me over an hour to remove them and re-sharpen it and still couldn’t remove them completely. For a tap this The die is fine. The tap is not. It took me over an hour to remove them and re-sharpen it and still couldn’t remove them completely. For a tap this size, it’s vital that it’s sharp, otherwise it shreds the wood and the power needed to make the cut is excessive, and dangerous if used in a drill.

The description says made of hardwood, but it came made from plastic. I am a traditional woodworker and I do not usually allow plastic in my shop. I was really looking forward to using this product, now I am embarrassed to own it.I have not used it yet, but hopefully it will be ok.

I used this to make wooden screws/bolts for a wooden vise. It worked very well. The directions in the package are clear. I tested the dowel threader on poplar before doing the more expensive maple dowels. The cutting depth on the threader and tap made the wooden maple bolt and hickory nut fit very well. I pre-soaked my dowels for a day in boiled linseed oil. I bought a piece of pvc that would fit the dowels without needing a huge amount of oil surrounding them, and I closed off the bottom of the tube with a plastic bag and rubber bands. The handle on the tap can be hard on your hands since it is so thin, so I recommend making some covering handles with whatever dowel size you want by drilling a hole in the center of the dowel pieces and slipping it over thd metal handle. See photos for my setup, threaded dowel, and tapped nut.

This tap and threading jig are well made. I have used it twice: once on oak and once on poplar. It cuts easily and cleanly.

Haven’t used it yet, but looks like it should do the job. Made in China, but what isn’t these days.

This looks really nice and probably will work well I am soaking my dowel stick in linseed oil before making my wood vice screw.

Had a project to add a wooden gas tank cover for my hot rod and wanted to find an easy and price effective way to add a nut & bolt look. Found tis product from a small business in the USA which I always check for. Now days you can't always get made in the USA but you can always buy in the USA. Thanks DTC
