Product Description

What is an AMT?

AMT is short for Air Motion Transformer, which stands tall as a unique style of transducer in the world of speaker drivers. The AMT found in the speakers from Dayton Audio utilizes a folded Kapton ribbon diaphragm. This allows more air to move through the diaphragm with less effort and distortion. This creates a purer and satisfyingly dimensional sound as compared to a traditional dome-style tweeter.

Put the finishing touches on your home theater with the Dayton Audio C452-AIR center channel speaker. Use this dual woofer speaker to add depth to all the action at the center of the stage. Whether you are watching TV or movies, this speaker will perform as well as other speakers costing much more.

The 2-way design of the C452-AIR employs dual 4-1/2" polypropylene woofers to produce the lows and mids while the 1" AMT tweeter delivers smooth and accurate high-frequency reproduction. The sleek appearance of this speaker will blend into your home furnishings with its black vinyl finish. Rubber feet and keyhole brackets are included so you can mount this center channel to you wall above or below your TV, or place it directly on a shelf. Speaker wire is included with the C452-AIR so you will be ready to install it right out of the box, and hook up is easy with the quick connect spring loaded terminals.

Sounds great but its slightly louder than the rest of my system. A little adjustment to the center channel and I Was ready to jam out to tunes or watch a movie (or play a game)Dont fall for those cheaper speakers that are 30 or 40 bux if you read the reviews everyone says theyre awful (weak sound and distorted bass, small size)This one does not have weak sound. Nor does the bass distort. It even comes with some quality speaker wire if you dont have a spool lying around. It is a LARGE, HEAVY Speaker and there are brackets for hanging it on the wall but I dont recommend it if you cant find the studs and/or dont have any long screws. It does have "Feet" so you can set it on a shelf or table if you need to.They ship UPS which means the package WILL be delivered damaged -- but dont worry, the speaker is packed with foam surrounding either end inside the box with space between the speaker and the box itself. Also if you order on a friday or weekend expect a slight shipping delay, mine was ordered friday and didnt even get scanned by UPS until monday. This speaker replaced a 3" single speaker RCA center with frayed wires. So obviously it sounds WAY better now. There are two 4 1/2" speakers like it says, and whatever an "AMT TWEETER" is it sounds excellent on the high end. Crisp clear voices. Basically three speakers in one.Cant rave enough about this speaker, if you need a center channel and cant afford the POLK or whatever get this instead for sure.

AMT tweeter is nice and snappy, but still softer/silkier sounding than the dome in my last center channel.the speaker itself is bulkier than i expected, but because it's so boring looking, it sorta disappears after you mount it.i wasn't expecting this when i bought it, but i like that i can use it as little shelf too.overall happy with my purchase

I bought this as an experiment because I wanted to see if these AMT tweeters were as good as a dome tweeter. My point of comparison was a $400 set of Polk speakers. I put this one in the center channel compared it to the Polk center channel it replaced.1. Empirically is sounds more sensitive in volts per sound level, so I had to lower the signal level to the center speaker. I think however this may be due to the superior base response, not the AMT versus Dome tweeter sensitiviy.2. vastly superior base response to the polk. vastly. not booming. just noiticably warmer.3. treble sounds great.4. Even though AMTs are allegedly more directional, I found it covered the room better than the polk. So I don't think that directional is an issue.5. Overall it sounds better far far far better with movies due to the base response. Music is not too bass sounding. The missing base response in the polks is perhaps not a susrpise. The polks use 2.5" woofers and the Dayton uses a 4.5" woofer. I think the reason for this is physics. Specifically, the Polks are forced to cover the mid range with their woofers, and so they have to use smaller size woofers to be able to cover that. Since AMT tweeters cover the midrange down to 2.3Khz too this lets the designer specialize the woofers to the bass and thus can use larger Woofers. The polk speaker leaves the initial impression of being more crisp and defined on things like a plucked high note but upon further listening I beleive this is an artifact of the missing bass. That is, if you emphasize trebble you naturally make things more crisp but not more natural. It's like turning up the contrast on a photo editor. It makes all the edges sharper but you lose the smoothness. But that's not to say the polks are shabby. I've loved them for years. I just found out I was missing the bass more than I realized (simply turning up the bass balance wasn't sufficient.).The bad news was putting these into my system has made it a little unbalanced when I switch between Music listening and Movies. The difference there is how the center channel gets used. In movies the the dolby 5.1 redirects voices to the center channel whereas music emphasizes steroeo separation. I find I have to change the gain on the center channe about 6dB when changing my Yamaha receiver from Dolby pro-logic enhanced 6.1 to 6-channel stereo. Otherwise either voices are to soft in movies, or the center channel too loud with music. Simialrly my system now is slightly unbalanced on the bass response, since more of that comes from the center channel now. But damn when you listen to movies that is just insanely better. What I need to do is replace all my speakers with these daytons so the balance of the force is restored! But for now I can just change the gain depending on what I'm doing.

My 5.1 systemYamaha RX-V383BL 5.1-Channel 4K Ultra HD AV Receiver with Bluetooth, Dayton Audio 15" SUB1500, custom made 10" 2-way speakers, Dayton Audio B652-AIR 6-1/2" 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker with AMT Tweeters (replaced woofers with their higher end 6.5" woofers), and an Amazon Echo (for Bluetooth music). My reviewI bought this center speaker for it's tweeter and to complete my 5.1 system. Totally love these AMT (ribbon) tweeters. Pure silk domes are great, but these AMT tweeters image the sound perfectly. No shrill, no higher volume ringing, just clean-clean-clean. The two 4" woofers are adequate. The intention of this center speaker is for mid-to-high end response...and they nailed it. Came double boxed with speaker wire. Unit has feet and is very lightweight. Two hooks on the back for hanging it on a wall. That should be no issue since it weighs, like, a few pounds.Conclusion$36 is a steal for this. It sounds delicious and you should not hesitate buying it. I don't work for Dayton Audio or was I paid to be so nice and giddy. But, I am older (50) and have heard my share of "junk" through the years.
