These are the traps Ive used for years in Puget Sound. I went to replace my old ones and I went to my local fishing store and bought two. I didnt realize they were a but bigger than what You had been using for years. Its not then end of the world but the larger ones are harder to pull and dont store as well. I was pleased to find these on Amazon for a decent price and the right size!

A good trap BUT try to avoid placing it on concrete as that will scuff the finish which will lead to rusting.

I purchased Danielson traps from the local stores here in Oregon, was always amazing to use. I guess I got a bad batch? One was to meet expectations and consistent with what I’ve used in the past. The other, that came in a separate package for some reason when I purchased both at the same time, was completely bent in and flimsy? I have no idea why and what the issue was but the metal was always half the width of the others and what I’ve had in the past. I mean traps are traps but not consistent with what I normally experience with this company.

Please do your cup of research before leaving this product a negative review. This trap is designed for LARGE salt water crab, like dangies, rock, pudget. It's not designed for shrimp and blue crab. This trap works great and does what it should, but you still need to make a few adjustments. For Canada, you need to replace the hinges on one of the doors with a rot cord, plus you need to add weights for this trap to drop down and land flat, otherwise, you won't catch anything. Tie your bait jar to the middle like it shows in the photo and you are good to go!

Very small grade of wire used in construction. All the panels were disassembled, requiring user to click together, and then use pliers to squeeze certain panel joints shut. I have purchased many similar crab traps in the past, and these are the lowest quality I have ever purchased.

Added some weight to the entrance flaps to keep them closed with fast currents. This is our 2nd trap, and we have used it 2-3 times a year. We live in Idaho and just cannot make the trip as often as I would like. Make sure you rinse the trap after use in salt water and they will last. Our first one just had its first weld break from rust and we've had it about 5 years. We still use it and it catches crab!

Good quality. Used in greater Seattle area, good for dungeness crabs.

I like to start with the bad and end on a good note so here goes. A lighter, thinner medal material was used to construct this trap. This makes it prone to getting "bent out of shape" very easily. The original Danielson traps use a sturdier material. The other down side to thinner material is it makes the trap lighter. If there is any current in the water where the trap is being used, be careful with buoy size as this could get your trap washed away. Seals and sea lions can break into these traps easier when they attempt to get your bait.On the up side, the gates are wider and there is a top access panel on this design. I have always modified my original Danielson traps and added larger gates for the crabs to get in. This is huge because there are crabs too large to get into the original smaller gates It also makes it easier for all crabs to get into your trap. The access panel on the top means that you don't have to partially take apart your trap to gain access to any crabs caught as well as the bait basket. This will help with making the trap last longer plus much easier to use.
