I like the concept of the traps, it opens up so many options on crabbing however the traps are lose to where the crabs can get out when you are reeling them in. When I ordered the 2 traps they were suppose to come with the measuring gage and they didn't. When I received the order they were actually in a plastic bag like from Walmart there was NO sealed bag inside the bag.

The first thing I liked was the way these are constructed. A sturdy metal frame, a rod to put bait on and springs that lay it flat but also it closes up with a pull on the cord.Off a pier I placed it right below me as I was also fishing. With this the crabs can walk on and off easily, it's not like a box crab trap. I looked down and saw two crabs on it. With a quick pull of the cord, I attached it to it and two crabs came up with it. Once it folds it is not easy for a crab to get out of it. The next toss, I threw it out deeper and I could not see it. I fished for a while, and I decided to check it out. It was about fifteen minutes. Three crabs that time. There was another fisherman with a standard box crab trap that came over to check mine out. His box crab trap does trap the crabs inside, but it's more work than this type. I let him use my second one and I told him where to buy them. He was not only happy with it, he was able to let his child (about 9yrs old) use it. This is great for kids, it's so light weight. I did get my trap back. I did enjoy seeing the young child having fum with it. He did get a few crabs. The crab size tool sure makes life easy to know if it's a keeper or not. I caught nine crabs on that trip, five were keepers. This is a fun addition to your fishing trip or just a day crabbing. They fold up flat and small. That sure makes carrying them easy and they take up little room in your vehicle. This is easy to recommend. Lightweight, easy to throw into the water, self-opening and it's easier to use over a heavy box trap. Get a set and enjoy a day crabbing.

The crab traps were the first I was able to find online of this type. I like the idea of it, but I think you should stick to a regular crab pot, and here's why:Pros:-Good build quality-Affordable-Lightweight-Quick to deploy-Small for easy storageCons:-Small, not much space for multiple crabs-Light, Drifts in any currents-No bait holder-Fishing line is used to close the trap, which can breakInitially when I received these I was surprised they were so small. You will be able to catch 1 crab with a good set, but that's it. They tend to drift in any current making it difficult to keep your trap upright. If you cast, and don't make sure that it is upright you will have wasted your time. I had to create a makeshift baitholder out of a laundry bag or onion produce holder. When you cast in a current, make sure you have some sort of weight because it will not go far. I never did get a crab with these, but it could just be user error.Overall, I think this is worth trying if you're more experienced than me, or do not have room to store crab traps. But I do not think you should spend the money if you are tight on money or time.

This is a simple trap (actually, a pair of them) that is a good value. Our season is delayed this year, so I’m doing a dry land evaluation based on experience.First, two decently sturdy traps and gauges for the price is a good deal. The gauges have markings for West Coast dungeness - which works for me.I don’t think if these as “castable” but rather droppable with a stiff fishing rod. Look at the size in my photo with the ruler laid across it. My plan is to lower them off the wharf or off my kayak in the harbor near where I live. I’m not confident that it would deploy properly if cast.I’m going to add weights to make sure it unfolds properly when it hits the bottom. Additionally, I’ll add a sinker to the middle as well. I’m thinking 2oz to the end of each wing and a 6oz to the middle bar.Another addition will be to make a small bait box out of 1/4” hardware cloth and wire it to the middle upright wire on the trap. Just tying bait to the middle without a wire cage will not allow the bait to last long. The two things above are really things you have to do with any trap, so no points lost. All traps need some sort of weights and bait cage adjustment. So, no points lost - just unsolicited advice.I’m tying a length of 1/4” paracord to the gauges and fastening the other end to the kayak near each of the two seating positions. A hole is provided in the gauges for this purpose.Looking forward to crabbing with these. Hopefully CA DFW will determine the whales have finally passed by on their migration and we’ll get to crabbing soon!

This product started to rust after only a few uses. The materials feel cheap and low-quality, and it's nowhere near as well-made as the original version. I'm very disappointed.
