I had used an inexpensive rotary paper trimmer for nearly 3 decades and finally upgraded. I found this 20" Dahle at a good price on Amazon and treated myself. I have not tried 30 sheets of paper at a time but it cut through the paper and plastic lamination like butter! Sturdy, heavy, and precise.

This is excellent, and beautiful, trimmer. I bought this trimmer with Dahle’s 72” stand, which I highly recommend (see my review there). I’ve used trimmers for over 30 years at several engineering firms but this is the first one I’ve owned. It's not cheap but you get what you pay for. This trimmer gives sharp and accurate cuts, and I’m very happy.

It is built solid, but I cannot make a straight cut to save my life with it. Ive used many rotary trimmers in the past, but this is just not good at the one thing I need it to do.

This is a quality cutter for sure but I'm not sure it's any better than my less expensive Dahle 552 Rotary Trimmer. If I had to do it over, I'd buy another 552.

We have been cutting hundreds 36" wide 10oz. canvas prints on a cutting mat with 40" cutting rulers and using up several packs of fresh trimmer blades. We have two people that spent two days cutting with just OK results. We still had hanging threads here and there and miscuts where the blade went off track. We also went home exhausted with very sore arms and fingers. In short it has been a very tough job.We just got the Dahle 446 Premium rotary trimmer. It works MUCH BETTER than we could have imagined. The cuts are flawless and perfectly straight and smooth. It takes just two fingers of pressure to cut the canvas. You can shave off hair thin strips all the way down the 36" sheets. This machine cuts in BOTH directions and has a super smart clear plastic hold down that holds whatever you are cutting in place as the blade approaches it. Don't look any further BUY ONE!

We use this for cutting commercial vinyl (3 - 6 mil). It's accurate and easy to use. Trims to very tight tolerances and can also be used for pre-production work -- cutting varying width vinyl strips. Cutting mechanism is well designed, slides smoothly along its rail, and stays sharp. Not inexpensive, but you get what you pay for. Recommended.

Well built product. It should be, as it is premium priced. With proper care I expect to get many years of use from this product.

When I received my Dahle 446 Premium Rolling Trimmer, the first thing I did after taking it from the box, was test for squareness. It visually looked great. A simple test is to take a piece of copy paper, which is most likely perfectly square, and cut an extremely thin sliver from the end. Just make sure the paper is flush against the fence and doesn't move during the cut. Then compare the 2 ends of the sliver. If they match then it is square. You can then flip the paper over so the opposite side of the paper is against the fence and test again. If the cut wasn't square it will show up very easily with this sliver, as the amount it is off will be doubled now. Go through this procedure on the left and right fences. If there is a problem, loosen the screws on the bottom of the end that is out of square, adjust it, and tighten the screws. Then test again using the above procedure. My Dahle 446 tested perfect, but only if I pressed the paper against the section of the fence that is about 5" to 12" away from the blade/cutting rail (look at the attached photo). I can cut a sliver that is thinner than a piece of thread, and both ends match.THE PROBLEM: If I pull the paper against the part of the fence that is closer to the blade/cutting rail the paper will rotate counterclockwise slightly. This slight rotation can move a large sheet of paper at the far end by 1/8" or more! This is the same on both left and right molded end pieces! On a trimmer this expensive and well built, the fence should be absolutely flat along the entire length and square to the blade/cutting rail. Also I am finding that the end of the fence farthest away from the blade/cutting rail is lifted slightly. The nearest screw is 1 3/4" to the left.Update: I contacted support at Dahle, and worked with the Customer Relations Manager. She sent me both molded end pieces via 2 day FedEx. I received them, installed them, and now the cutting experience when using my Dahle 446 is much better. The fences on both ends are now flat the entire length, they are flush with the surface, and everything is square!

for the most part, I like this rotary cutter except for three things:while there are inches for measurements, the focus is primarily on metric measure. If I want to measure something at 5" let's say, there is a 5" mark but the line that goes all the way across the cutter, which would make setting the paper square much easier, is cm and is not at the 5" mark. So I have to use a square I purchased to get the measure across the rotatry cutter. The other thing is that it isn't square. I called Dahle and they sent me a link on how to make it square (turn it over and adjust screws), which is fine but time consuming for me. I would like to have at least received it square initally and over time had to readjust it.Finally, it is difficult to cut paper less than about 2.5" w/o removing the plastic guide that holds the paper down. Its possible but a pain. I often need to cut 1/4" pieces that have to be square and clean. Right now I cut the paper 6" or so and then just cut down using the measuring guides on the sides of the cutter until I can't cut anymore because of the plastic guide. That's about 2/5-3" of paper I can't use.I do love the clean cut however!
