This kit is so cute!They send everything needed to make one of each capybara, 2 crochet needles, a few markers and a scissors. Manual is not as clear as I was expecting, but you will understand and there is supporting videos as well.I'm from Brazil and been making amigurumis for a while, this is definitely the most well prepared and cute crochet kit I've ever seen!

I've been crocheting amigurumis for over a decade and a half ever since my wife (then girlfriend) wanted to try to make a cute crochet lion from a free instructional sheet we saw at Michaels in the yarn section. That one sheet of random letters and numbers made absolutely zero sense at the time and we had to head to YouTube to learn what it all meant. Apparently crocheting in the round isn't the normal way people dip their toes in this hobby, but it's certainly doable as I can attest to it. Fast-forward to the Woobles craze that's been hitting lately and it tickles me that companies are trying their best to make it easy for people to get into crocheting. This kit comes with literally everything you would need to create the two pictured dinos. What made me choose this set over their other offerings were that it included the little hearts which are pretty cute. We were gifted some Woobles kits over Christmas so we can definitely compare this to them, and I will say that while the included materials are on par with what you can get from the more expensive brand-name kits, the instructions are abysmal. We were only able to do this because we aren't new to the hobby. I would not recommend that you get this kit to start learning how to crochet, that's what the internet is for. But if you're already armed with even beginner knowledge, or you've already completed an amigurumi or two yourself, these kits are really wonderfully priced if you're looking to help get someone else into the hobby. Especially because you can make 2 dinos, you can literally work together to help teach someone else at the same time.

This is a nice kit! The yarn is very (though not absolutely) forgiving, and they give you everything you need. The hooks are comfortable, the safety eyes are of high quality, and I had plenty of extra yarn and stuffing.The yarn isn't plied, it's knitted, I'm pretty sure, out of very thin thread in a tube around some internal strands of stuffing. This is very forgiving for a beginner. Imagine if you took an elastic hair tie and magiced the elastic out of it... it's kind of like that. Most yarn is made of twisted smaller pieces of yarn called plies, and it's easy to do what's called "splitting a stitch," where you accidentally stick your hook through a piece of the yarn instead of going between pieces of yarn. It's absolutely still possible to split this stuff, but it splits way less easily.Now, we should talk about the meaning of the word "beginner" for projects with yarn. One does not do one crochet project and then magically cease to be a beginner. Depending on the speed with which you learn, how particular you are about the perfection of your projects, how brave you are, how ferociously you're able to concentrate, and how much hair you'd still like remaining on your head when you finish the project, you may still be what an expert would label a "beginner" a year or more into your crochet journey, or even for your whole life. I've been crocheting for 36 years (my mommy taught me when I was five) and I still mostly gravitate to beginner or "advanced beginner" projects because I don't have time to crochet super often, and when I do, I want it to be an enjoyable experience.If you've never held a crochet hook before, do yourself a favor and make some dishcloths out of cotton yarn or some granny squares with some tightly-plied acrylic yarn first. That said, you're here, and if you're an absolute beginner and these are how you want to start your crochet journey, it's not impossible. They give you some practice yarn, and if you work diligently through the tutorial videos they provide with that practice yarn, then rip it out and practice some more, you could learn with this kit.The thing about amigurumi, good amigurumi anyway, is that the stitches need to be TIGHT so that the stuffing doesn't show through. The stitches also need to be very even or you'll end up with unfortunate bulges in places that end up making your cute little figures not so cute. So practice. Learn the stitches with the practice yarn, then do it all again, but TIGHTLY. Are you going to be able to see a bunch of stuffing through your single crochets? Learn to do it tighter still.Making two turtles start to finish will involve executing 16 magic loops (one to start each piece) and magic loop (also known as magic ring) is notoriously difficult to learn to execute consistently. The tutorial videos do cover it, but you could watch 20 different tutorials online and still be confused. This is normal. Keep looking for different tutorials (methods vary absolutely wildly) until you find one that will work for you, giving you a nice tight first round. The popular brand-name (and far pricier) kits that are similar to these come with the magic loops already done for you, and that's with extremely good reason.All right, if you're an absolute beginner, are you scared yet? You shouldn't be terrified, but you should definitely not be expecting a gentle introduction to crochet with this kit.If you are not a complete beginner, and you've made even one amigurumi piece before, you won't find anything terribly surprising here except perhaps the petals on the sunflower, which are a lace pattern. The printed instructions for the sunflower petals involve picots and treble crochets, which the pamphlets that come in the kit don't bother to explain. The video tutorials do. Having made amigurumi before, I didn't need to use the video tutorials, though in hindsight I wish I had - I checked them out before starting this review because I wanted to give a true beginner an idea of what to expect. The written instructions for the sunflower petals aren't clear enough (even if you know how to do a treble crochet) to make it clear where you should slip your picots into. I made assumptions based on the demo pictures in the pamphlet, and mine looks like the pamphlet, but the video tutorial looks a bit different and I think I'd have preferred that look. All in all, not a big deal, though.I watched several of the tutorial videos pretending I knew nothing about crochet, and they're pretty well done. The absolute beginner tutorials are quite clear and were voiced by an actual human, and the instructions for the amigurumi figures themselves are an AI voiceover that completely butchers certain words. ("Picots", which is properly pronounced "pee-cohs," comes out as "pick-oh-tats", and it even mispronounces the word "crochet.") That said, the human doing the crocheting in the instructions for the figures does a really good job. You COULD start from absolute beginner status and do this successfully, though like I've said, it will not be an easy ride.The kit's a good value - if you assembled all the materials yourself you'd end up with lots more yarn than you needed, and it would cost more than this kit. The video tutorials definitely add value. I recommend it wholeheartedly, but please consider finding a kinder introduction if you've never held a hook before, especially if you get frustrated or discouraged easily.

I bought this to make one for my boyfriend & one for me. the dinosaurs are very cute. the instructions are bit confusing for a beginner and it took a minute to get the hang of it but other then that i enjoyed making them!

My 15 year old grand daughter absolutely loved this kit. She is a capybara addict.

The kit was good, it came with everything you need including both written and video instructions! However the yarn is TERRIBLE! I am 100% a beginner and the yarn kept fraying on me and unraveling making it very difficult to follow along because I had to keep starting over! If the yarn was better this would be perfect! I plan to buy different yarn and try again!
