THEY WORK WELL BUT THEY ARE RUSTED. I HOPE I AM ABLE TO USE THEM AGAIN NEXT YEAR.

These cleats are a much needed product, at least for me, especially when walking my dog in icy and snowy weather in northeastern Ohio . They fit well on my boots and shoes and are not at all hard to put on or remove. There is one thing though, that surprised me. They were advertised as the cleats being stainless steel, and yet they were rusty leaving orange marks on my boot caddy after wearing them on my boots just a short time. I have never used anything like these cleats before, so I am wondering if they have to be removed after each wear and hung to dry to prevent rusting, even though stainless steel shouldn't rust --that was one of the reasons I bought these.

I have a steep driveway at a higher elevation in upstate NY. That means harsher winter conditions including ice. I have slipped on the ice several times and even slid down my driveway into the road before. As a senior, that is super scary because it is just a matter of time before something breaks from a fall. I have been using a competitor’s ice cleats which work fairly well but still slip a little when pushing smaller amounts of slushy snow across my driveway with a push shovel, the incline makes it treacherous. The VanRolldex ice cleats have heftier cleats than my others do helping them to grip better on ice without slipping. I definitely have a better sense of safety while clearing my driveway. They offer great stability using my snowblower too! I am certain they would work great for ice fishing, winter hiking, and to have in the car in the event they are needed during the winter months.

I live in a mild climate but travel to Portland, Oregon often in the winter where occasional icy conditions can last for several days and make foot travel difficult at best. I need the ability to add traction for short and moderate length walks under these conditions. The ideal solution could also be helpful with short steep muddy conditions.I used the sizing recommendation to select the right size crampon. Ifound it easy to attach these crampons to my size 11 Keen hiking shoes and Welty boots. The fit was firm and solid. Walking with the crampons on soft flat ground was comfortable and didn't impede my stride. Weather conditions haven't allowed me to test them yet under ice and/or snowy conditions but I expect the crampons to be functional under icy conditions.I recommend putting them on before going outside under cold conditions with care not to mar flooring. Care should include cleaning with warm water and/or a wet rag and then hang them to air dry before putting them away. The small drawstring case makes it easy to drop the crampons in a backpack or store them in a glove box until icy conditions return. Are they adequately adjustable? Yes, the XL size fit snuggly over my size 11 hiking shoe and all weather "Welty" boots. Are they easy to put on and take off? Yes, the tab on the heel makes it easy to fit over shoe soles. Are the durable enough for longer walks? Yes, I tested them by walking under muddy field conditions. I haven't been able to test them for longer use durability yet.Are they comfortable for longer walks? Moderate distances should be OK but I would be careful about using on a long walk under cold, harsh conditions. In summary I found these crampons to provide an inexpensive solution for occasional slippery conditions due to ice. I don't know yet if they are durable enough for hard every day use but won't hesitate to put them to that test.

I got these cleats for backup use while ice fishing. There’s no need for traction on the crusty snow, but when the ice is at the top, these help prevent slipping. I usually use some boots that have cleats screwed into the soles, but those cleats are wearing out.XL only fits my 10.5 hikers, although heel cleats are further forward on my heel than I prefer. They seem to stay on with moderate exertion on the snow/ice. But I cannot get them on my size 10 winter boots – the heel strap is EXTREMELY stretched and those heel cleats are under my instep. On my (non-waterproof) hikers, they provided reasonable traction for shoveling the driveway, or perhaps running the snow blower over it. They might even provide some grip on the ice of a frozen lake, but I would not be wearing those hikers for that.Instead, I think my wife will put these on here size 6 women’s boots. She won’t go ice fishing, but she does shovel or blow the snow off the driveway on occasion. For the price, these are OK.
