We continue to purchase this brand because it is very reliable and we feel safer with it than an unknown brand one could purchase at local Wally world. Trust the professionals.

This stuff is terribly effective; while I've never used it on a bear I have tested it twice and noticed the effect it had on me - upwind!Note the date on what you receive - Mine came as a "new" purchase from Amazon, but it was 18 months old (hence not giving it a 5 star rating). Seeing as how I got it at a discount, I can't really complain. But note the manufacturer recommends you replace these every four years. The reason they recommend replacement is because of loss of propellant over time. The active "pepper" ingredients do not degrade over time, but the propellant may leak out.So always test the unit before taking it in the field, especially if it's old. I used a four year old canister last summer and it worked fine. I have not had a chance to test it this year (now it's five years old) this year, but will do so in the next couple weeks.Always test standing upwind of the spray direction and do it in an area where there are no people or animals within 100 feet. A short burst (0.5 seconds or a little more) will give you an idea of how much propellant you have.
