In my humble opinion this is one of the best production back packing axes money can buy. Easy to sharpen, great tempering job. Nocely fit for a production axe. Check you head centering though as I have heard that it can sometimes be off a tad. But this is a strong high quality axe for the field. And for the price, you are getting more value for your money than if you spent hundreds on a swedish axe brand. again in mine and many others opinions.

Sharp as a razor. Great grind, great handle and grain orientation, great mask. Great value for a US made bushcraft and camping axe. Love it.

Everything looks great! No gaps in the eye, the grain of the wood is straight. Came super sharp. Onky thing I did was treat with oil. Definitely looks like an improvement from from a few years ago. Would highly recommend this or the wood craft camp carver.

Likes:1. packaged with care, axe blade with disposable rubber guard and wrapped in plastic to protect the whole head in shipping (leather axe guard wrapped separately too, very wise), also all the contents were double boxed for added caution (as well as including amazon packaging)2. Loved the flat scandi grind for ease of sharpening and it'll make wood carving a breeze3. The wood handle came bare without any finish so that I could choose my own method of conditioning (raw linseed is my preferred method)4. Grain orientation is very much to satisfaction being in line with the blade to minimize the chance of breakage

I have been looking for a large hatchet/pack ax for a while and ended up with this one. It works great, it is small enough to fit in my pack and heavy enough to get splitting/trimming/cutting work done. I especially like the hardened poll for pounding tent stakes and the cutout that allows choking up on the blade for carving. The striker on the spine is nice as well.

This is an axe you will buy once and take care of for the rest of your life. There were a few criteria that I was looking for...1) It had to be light enough to strap to a hikers backpack on every trip2) I had to feel like, 'I only need this cutting tool and nothing else' to process firewood3) Maybe I would compliment this axe with one 4"-5" knife to handle smaller jobsOn a couple of test runs, this axe outdid my expectations1) It wasn't bulky like 24" handle would have been like2) I felt confident taking only this axe and 'maybe' a saw out into the middle of nowhere3) Not only could I shave some tinder curls with this axe but I was able to most of the other work with a knifeSo while you might not keep this axe as a one stop shop next to a home or cabin, it is definitely a great piece to keep as a one stop shop to process firewood in the middle of the wilderness.
