it is a great banjo after you set it up. if you are willing to work on it a little bit. I play guitar so it was something for me to get started playing banjo.

Bought as a Christmas present for our daughter. She loves it and enjoys learning to play it. Didn’t want to spend a lot to begin with, until we knew if she would stay with it. Seems to be well made and all the accessories that come with it are a good bonus for the price.

The tuner that showed up with mine wasn't for banjo, strings were corroded, changed the out for a set of Earnie Ball strings. Decent tone and comfortable balance. Take time to give it the once over and tighten and align all the hardware. Remember it's made in China, where quality ain't job one.

I would say this is a great starter banjo. I first borrowed a banjo from my local library, and it was a bit better build than the Costzon... BUT if you put new strings and especially a new bridge onto the Costzon then its actually fantastic. Easy fix. Plus a new strap.Good sounding banjo for $200

As someone who knows nothing about banjos, I’m having a great time with this. The set up is easy and it sounds good, even with socks stuffed in the back to dampen the sound for my roommates. I recommend buying metal fingerpicks at the same time if you want to play bluegrass, because I could not find them in any of the 5 music stores I visited. Literally, cross province, no metal picks. Not something you would there would be a shortage of, but hey. You can solve that problem early. The plastic picks included are perfect for clawhammer though. I have had no issues with quality or shipping.

I’m a beginner and this is working great for me. Sounds good. Easy to tune. Holds the tune. I figured if I like playing I will upgrade to something more elaborate. For the money though I’m not sure you could do better than this.Get another strap. The one in the kit is junk. The finger picks are small so if you have big hands go ahead and order more.

This product is a fairly ok banjo for beginners to learn on. After receiving it, the strap does not work for this, as well as the finish on the wood is terrible. A string was broken, however, it came with a set of replacements so I was able to fix that right away. The wood on the resonator under the neck was starting to chip and rub on the neck, just go around and tighten everything before playing. All in all, not bad.

What a great banjo for a beginner like me. I put new strings and a different (1/2 inch) bridge, oiled the fret board and the inside of the body and cleaned up a couple of fret ends. I will need to secure one of the frets that has lifted out of the board very slightly but it doesn’t seem to effect the playability so far. Made some other minor adjustments and it sounds great so far. I would highly recommend getting some metal picks to give it some punch/volume and for good solid tone. Sure there are some very minor workmanship flaws here and there as expected at this price point but I rather enjoy going through the set up as I think it helps me get familiar with the instrument. The only real issue I could mention is that on mine (not sure about all of them) the arm rest bolt sits on top of one of the nuts that secure the resonator. Not that big of an issue but the resonator can’t be taken off without first removing the arm rest. I suppose a person could move the armrest toward the neck if it bothers them too much. Customer service is outstanding. I would recommend this instrument to anyone who has an interest in learning to pick. It has been fun for me—it’s been about a week and almost already have Cripple Creek locked in. Slow but sure. Happy picking.

Five stars on the banjo. Nice action.Great tone. Well made. The only problem was the condition the box arrived in. Huge puncture and tear exposing the foam interior wrapper at top of neck and behind the resonator. Fortunately, the instrument was not impacted. I suggest Amazon put the factory box inside a heavier shipping container. Other than that, I'm extremely pleased.GM

Great little starter banjo for the price. You definitely want to inspect it before the return date comes and goes. Mine has several cosmetic flaws, but sounded pretty good coming out of the box. The tuner works ok once you figure it out, you definitely need to tune it in chromatic mode. The strap that came with it is absolute garbage and if you plan on doing bluegrass the picks can go in the trash with the strap, but for the price the banjo and tuner are worth it for a beginner. Can't comment much on the cloth bag as I bought a hard case when I ordered the banjo. At a glance, it's not insulated or padded but it looks rugged enough to keep your new banjo clean when not in use and let you carry it around if you're not abusive.Took it to a local music shop for setup (the action was a little high) and the guy was very impressed by the quality of the sound and that a banjo with resonator that sounds this good could be had for less than $400.Toyed with it for about 2 weeks before taking it in for setup just to get a little comfortable with my picking before having precision adjustments made. Didn't need much. He brought the action down just a bit and straightened the neck slightly. The bridge shipped in the right spot (this is not to say yours will) and all it needed was tuning the day it was delivered.Mine was delivered exactly 7 days after it was ordered.4 stars because of the garbage strap that won't attach to the banjo without being tied on with string, and the cosmetic flaws from manufacturing.Edited to explain the 4 stars and add photos
