Great lantern, very well made, it is a dual fuel usage, which is very helpful when camping or in an emergency situation. I found it a bit steep, and I wish I would have ordered the larger version. Other than that a good buy.

I had one of these for many years but wanted to upgrade this to the modern version. It uses unleaded gas or Coleman fuel which is an excellent system. It works great with either

I've been using the Coleman Dual Fuel Lantern for several months now, and I’m thoroughly impressed with its performance. Right out of the box, the build quality is excellent, with a sturdy design that feels durable and ready for outdoor adventures. The dual fuel capability is a game-changer, allowing me to use either Coleman Liquid Fuel or unleaded gasoline, making it incredibly versatile and convenient. The lantern provides a bright and consistent light, perfect for camping trips, backyard gatherings, or emergency situations. It’s easy to light and adjust, with a simple control knob that lets you dial in the perfect amount of light. The large fuel tank ensures long burn times, so you’re not constantly refueling, which is a huge plus for extended outings. One of the standout features is its reliability. Regardless of weather conditions, this lantern performs flawlessly. Whether it’s cold, rainy, or windy, the Coleman Dual Fuel Lantern lights up every time and maintains a steady brightness. It’s also relatively lightweight for its size, making it easy to pack and carry. The only negative thing I have to say about this particular product is the carrying case. And it's not just this lantern—Coleman's carrying cases have always been lacking throughout my entire life.Overall, the Coleman Dual Fuel Lantern is an outstanding product that delivers on its promises. If you’re in need of a reliable, bright, and versatile lantern for outdoor adventures or emergencies, look no further. This lantern is worth every penny and has become an essential part of my outdoor gear.

This is a cover in case and old school dual fuel lantern.Because it's dual fuel. You can use a white gas from camp stores. Or you can just go to the gas station and use unleaded gas which makes it great no matter where you are. I can always siphon off a cup full of gas out of a car to use it.Very well made, the Duo cloth globes are very bright.

I bought this for use in case of emergencies, and for camping. If you've ever used a Coleman lantern before this is exactly what you think it is. The carrying case is strong and holds the lantern in place internally with molded plastic parts. There's some space inside the case to carry additional mantles, and maybe a lighter, but I don't think a fuel funnel would fit. It's a bit harder to light when using gasoline than when using white gas (Coleman fuel) but that's the only difference I've noticed. It's clearly well made, and with the occasional tear-down and cleaning it should last forever. With that said, for a bit more money you can buy a small folding solar panel and some rechargeable LED lanterns/lights that are smaller, lighter, easier to use, and safer, so you can let kids use them without worrying about them setting themselves, the camp site, and/or the house on fire.Pros: - It's just the same as every other white gas Coleman lantern ever, so odds are you already know how to use it. - Gasoline is substantially cheaper than white gas. - Bright, reasonably long run time. The description says 8 hours on one tank, on high, but in my experience it runs far longer than that because the brightness goes down as the tank empties unless you keep pumping it to keep the pressure up.Cons: - It's relatively heavy. - Use extreme caution if you use it indoors. Crack open a window and be sure to have a carbon monoxide detector. - It puts out a lot of heat, so don't use it near anything flammable (tents, trees, curtains, children). - It stinks a bit when it's running, but it's nowhere near as bad as a kerosene lamp. - You're going to break the mantles regularly, so buy some spares. At least the new mantles aren't made out of radioactive thorium. - It doesn't come with a funnel. I use the one that came with my Coleman stove, which is a "Coleman Filtering Funnel" and can be bought separately. - Even with a funnel refueling it is an exercise in spilling fuel everywhere.

TL;DR -- Excellent Coleman lantern, arguably the best one in their current lineup. Case is great if you use your brain. Background: I am a heavily experienced camper (not backpacker, so none of my current reviews will speak to weight or portability) with years of trying out different products. I am also a believer in the merits of "old school" products that just work. As such, I've always been a single-mantle Coleman lantern guy. My grandfather's Coleman 200A from 1951 still works perfectly, as does my father's lantern from the 70s. Now that I'm rebooting my camping life with my own wife and son, I thought it best to buy new equipment and preserve the old equipment as heirlooms that I would like keep safe.I recently purchased two Coleman 286 single mantle lanterns. Unfortunately, I had bad luck with both of them with regard to quality control (flare-ups on starting and flickering when expecting steady light). This led me to buy this double-mantle version based on a lot of online research and input form very kind members of vintage Coleman forums. Why did I always stay away from dual mantle models? Not sure, apart from the fact that we always had the single-mantle versions growing up. The cost of mantles is minimal so that's not a good reason (PS: I recommend looking into Peerless 2C-HG mantles for this lantern due to their brightness and white tone, but I leave it to the reader to decide on those vs. Coleman mantles which are also good, just more yellow in temperature). The fragility of mantles is a fact of life with these lanterns so that's not a good reason. The fuel usage is the same, so that's also not a good reason. Conclusion: no compelling reason to insist on a single-mantle lantern! On the flip side, the advantages of dual-mantle setup are significant. In terms of start-up, the two mantles heat up the generator faster, preventing any sort of flareups and making the startup process generally smooth.Once the lantern is going, the ability to adjust the brightness is functional and realistic (no flickering, pulsing, or flame-outs). The two mantles seem to provide an excellent range of brightness using the simple control on the front of the lantern, and cast light evenly from both sides of the lantern as there is no shadow thrown by the generator. For reference this lantern is the exact same size as the Coleman 286 and the case is the same as the stand-alone green and black one. Regarding the case, Coleman is not foolish. They've designed scores of amazing products over the course of many years, and they're not going to suddenly release a flawed case for their single most iconic product. Just make sure to push the sides of the case inward firmly until you hear the satisfyingly solid CLICK on both sides, and your lantern is now secure. Double check before you lift it up, and you'll have no issues.Enjoy the outdoors, leave no trace, and respect nature. :)
