If I could give this product/seller negative stars I would. This recorder broke - just stopped working - after 3 hrs of use.New batteries did nothing to help.Definitely do not buy this product...unless, of course, you know how to fix things/electronics that break after 3 hrs if use.

My name is Collette aka Coco Mojo and I recently bought this unit on Amazon.I'm glad to have it -- it plays well. I'm sure there's better to be had online, but this is more affordable (I did not pay 90.00 for it, I paid 39.95 plus shipping and handling in mid-October 2014 -- and this price was for a NEW unit). What a relief to get this, as I could NOT find ANY microcassette players/recorders at ANY of the stores -- not even Radio Shack, as this is considered "old" technology -- however, I have many microcassettes in my possession that need a player, after my old one finally went defunct.I'm just grateful this technology still exists, and I can still buy it!

I returned this purchase July 2nd due to it malfunctioning (the spokes that turn the cassette were not operating). I did hear some noise coming from recorder. I returned it to the Surplus Joint (in California) July 2nd. Bryan from that facility e-mailed me saying he was replacing it that day - today is July 17th and I have not received it as yet. Hence, not a happy customer of either the Surplus Joint or Amazon. Never had a problem with Amazon's purchases before.I was issued a $5.00 replacement credit; however, the cassette recorder cost $24.94!!!!!What gives????

If I had just waited til the weekend, I would've had the opportunity to shop for a small recorder. Ah, but I love the convenience of online shopping! So, not only am I a dunce but lazy, too! This is really not worth a penny of your money. DON'T GET IT!!Poorly constructed - doesn't play well. China gets more of our American dollars! Forgive me, fellow citizens!

Bought nearly a dozen of these for a music class for kids to play/record their quizzes assignments at home and turn them in. Should have payed a little more for a better model. The sound is distorted during playback, especially in the higher pitch register. This is primarily for instruments, but even in the mid-upper vocal register the sound gets really distorted. I tested several of them with brand new batteries, different brand microtapes, they are all the same. Bad sound, and a TON of 'air static' pickup. You get what you pay for. But in this case, however, the degree of sound distortion is definitely a defect/flaw, even if it's by design. I will try to return these for better models.

I bought this recorder to digitize some twenty-year-old microcassettes I recorded on a Panasonic during a trip to Europe. About ten years ago, I bought a Sony microcassette recorder to listen to the tapes again. As far as I can tell, the Coby sounds as good as either unit during playback. The plastic body looks cheap, and the action of the control buttons is not as smooth as those more expensive units, but the electronics seem to be just as good.I recorded my voice on the Coby, and the playback sounded as good as the other units both through the speaker and through the earphone. As far as reliability, I transfered eight hours of tape to the computer with no problems.
