Says works on all surfaces - absolutely incorrect. Only works on metals. Not what I needed, at all. Ordered it by the description of working on all surfaces.

The nozzle is metal and overall the product is sturdy. I have another one thats all plastic so this def feels better in hand but at the end of the day they all do the same thing.

Product on first calibration tests, was within the tolerance specified. Works great, I detail vehicles for myself and several friends. On one suv I found a rear quarter panel that had some work done in the past. This product showed 5.1 average, with the rear panel showing 9.4 to 11.2.I recommend this product.

Very professional way to test paint thickness. Helped me negotiate on a Porsche which had a couple of thick spots suggesting previous repairs. The case it comes in is amazing!

It works well right out of the box and has the great advantage of working with both magnetic (steel) and non-magnetic (aluminum) metal substrates automatically. However, the high resolution of 0.001 mils does not mean that you can measure paint or other non-conductive films that thin! The calibration relies on the thickness of the substrate or base metal being fixed at about 40 mils, and only at room temperature, so the readings are not repeatable for paint thickness less than about 1 mil. That said, it is a great general-purpose tool for most applications and the price/performance is acceptable. I highly recommend the version with separate sensor head vs the integrated unit.
