I haven't had the chance to use this yet. I wanted to try to get out this July 4th weekend, but rain hampered that.I opened the package and was impressed by the weight and how sharp it is. As I was twirling the bit between my fingers the blade took off a small layer of skin on my thumb. It didn't hurt. No blood involved, just a thin layer of skin. No other bit I've bought has ever done that.I've bought cheap router bits from Amazon in the past knowing they weren't going to last long. But this CMT bit is head & shoulders above my previous purchases.I was also impressed by the fact that it's made in Italy, and didn't come from China. I look forward to using it and getting a project done for a client.

This is very sturdy and sharp and looks to be great for what it is meant to be.However, I bought this as a template bit to follow patterns. My thinking was a bigger bit is faster at cutting away more wood, but that‘s not true! A smaller diameter bit cuts easier, just like a thinner saw blade. Also it‘s next to impossible to follow a shape, it exerts tremendous forces and rips the part out of your hand. The straight makes it impossible to use for cutting end grain and the size does not allow for tight curves.I bought a small compression bit and it was way better for my use case. But that‘s not the fault of the product.

Works great. I've only made a few cuts with it so I can't speak to longevity but I expect it to be fine.

This bit was a bit more expensive than about 4 other alternatives. However, CMT has an excellent reputation and I have used them in the past. This bit is highly recommended. Note that there are bearings at the top and the bottom of the cutting area.

Bought to replace a Yonico 14134 Flush Trim Router Bit which was junk.Obtained to flush trim 1.5" deep large mortises in a 2x12 with Bosch 1617. I have used routers for years, and know not to bottom out the bit when installing and to properly clamp it in. Yoniko bit vibrated violently the minute I turned router on. Tried to trim anyway - bit started working it's way up and out of the router. Collet ruined, burnished beyond use. Measured shaft. Yoniko is both eccentric, tapered, and undersized. .490 to .455. Bought new collect and this CMT bit replacements. Worked perfectly. Also, CMT has a shear cut, while Yonico is straight. Stripped off the Yoniko bearings - bit is now in the trash...You always pay for what you get, and not always get what you pay for.CMT shaft is consistently .502. Tightened and stayed tight. Cut perfectly.Live and learn. Buy cheap, get cheap.

A solid bit. I needed to make little doors for a puzzle box. I created three templates for the door frames: a circle, square, and an arched square. I made it out of 3/4 oak ply, and this bit handled each with ease.I made templates for the actual doors. These are made of 3/4 red oak. I set my router in my table, hot glued the templates of the door to the top of the oak, then routed out the outside, running the bottom bearing on the top template, until I had a perfect match. It took a couple of passes, but the final product is solid.A pricey bit but some of the best money I've spent. I ordered a similar Yonico bit prior to this, but it performed poorly for my needs. Highly recommend.

I wanted to put smooth edges on oak stock that I was using to make red oak mission style chairs. The back legs are 1 1/2"x 1 1/2", with a angle about half way. Several of the cross pieces have an arch cut. I made a template of 1/4" mdf. I cut the pieces on the band saw, cutting about 1/8" outside the lines. I got this two bearing CMT cutter, installed them in the 2hp router mounted in owner made router table. It is an awesome, serious, massive bit. The length handled the 1 1/2" stock plus the 1/4" template and took the saw blade marks out, leaving a smooth finish, no sanding needed. The two CMT bits I ordered came in a sturdy bit holder and a heavy clear plastic storage box. Once you get used to the large size, you should enjoy using these bits. They are well made, sharp carbide cutters, smooth ball bearings, the bottom bearing is removable, when one needs to make a over cut with hand held router. I am a hobbyist, not a pro, but for what I wanted, these bits suit me very well. I am looking forward to using them some more, they are fun to run.
