I buy these for all my techs. My only suggestion is buy a stronger magnet for walls that are insulated.

Product works as marketed, not for professionals but DIY's, I was installing speaker wire behind my wall to hide and needed to be able to feed the speaker wire from the attic down the wall to the opening or speaker connections. The tool assisted me in being able to pull the magnet down thus he string followed. I had tied and then taped the speaker wit to the string, the magnet found the item, I dragged the tool down and then was able to pull and subsequently grab the speaker wire. Awesome, helps so much and eliminate stress. WORKS!

Returned it. Any job this is strong enough to complete could easily be done wjth a fish tape. Any job that is difficult with fish tape would be impossible for this. Wasn't worth the space it would take up in the toolbox.

So I waited until I got some real time using this product to say that everything is holding up as it should.I find this product especially useful for projects that need or don't need the magnet to pull a cord through the wall... and due to some of the reviews talking about how it can become disconnected if pulled too harshly I'd definitely recommend pulling the cord as gently as you can in an effort not to separate the magnetized portion from the cable.I'd also go on to state that this is probably best for the DIY'r and not full-on construction usage based on my personal experience... for the price this is listed at, it's more than capable to tackle most in-home projects but not a commercial project role.I would recommend this product to my friends if asked.

This review is for: ChromeX Magnetic Wire pulling kit with Changeable Metal and Magnetic Leaders - Only Half Inch hole neededThis is a less expensive option than some other popular items for routing cables through cavities.It comes in a decent somewhat-hard case. The magnets are very strong. As long as you don't have a lot of insulation or obstacles, this is a great answer for pulling stuff through cavities. The cord is nice and long, but you could easily substitute your own longer cord, if needed.There are a lot of videos online that show you how to use kits such as this.Price seems okay for what you get, maybe a tad high.Hope this was helpful.

First off, this tool does work under specific circumstances, but it is not as capable as a standard spring wire snake. I tested the tool using standard thickness and I was able to maneuver the magnetic leader up and down, left and right within the wall fairly well. The non-magnetic leader would not work through sheetrock at all. Most of the walls of my house are sheetrock insulated with paper backed fiberglass and even the magnetic leader has some difficulty sliding between the sheet rock and either fiberglass or its paperbacking. As should be obvious, it works better going down than up. Still, if I were running wire vertically I would try this tool before using a wire snake. For situations where nothing obstructs the leader it has advantages in that it can be maneuvered left and right in a stud bay and the soft cord is much less annoying to deal with than a stiff wire snake.

This is a terrific tool. The magnets are super strong and work great, even through dry wall. If you have insulation it would probably be a problem, but worked for me.I see another reviewer said that they couldn't pull romex with the magnet. NOTE - it is NOT designed to pull romex! You are supposed to pull the included blue super light rope through the wall and then tie your wire to the blue rope and use the rope to pull the wires through. Might be a good idea for the manufacturer to include instructions with the kit.The only issue is the plastic connecting the magnets to the string is pretty weak. The first set I had snapped off immediately. They sent another and it's holding strong, and I'll be very careful to not tug at it, but it still seems like a likely failure point.
