The metal is coated mild steel, and due to iron content, it is strongly attracted to a magnet. The metal will rust rapidly once exposed to high temperature carbon and wood ash.

This is very thin. I’m not positive that it’s stainless steel. The edges are sharp so you need to be aware of that. It does make cleaning the smoker much easier because you can just pull out the basket to empty the ashes and wash it if you want. It also helps with heat distribution and temperature control. My husband likes this product but I do wonder how long it will hold up because of how thin it is

Whoever owns a charcoal grill should purchase these charcoal trays.I needed 1 hour 15 min of grill time to bake these sweet potatoes. It saves times because it is easier to clean up with these charcoal trays than clean the whole grill. It saves money because there are no charcoal wasted. I only used enough charcoals for my grill. Charcoal burned to the last minutes. There was no charcoals slipped to the bottom and they keep the heat source strong when staying inside the small trays.I took the trays out and rinse with the water. There was not too many ashes discharged to the grill. These stainless trays are not very thick. For its benefits and money spent, it's really worth it.

These baskets are sturdy and drop right into the charcoal area of my smoker/grill. I can now put coals on either side of my food, giving a more even heat. The holes on the bottom are a good size, helping the air flow better than just laying the coals on the bottom. Ash falls through as it should.
