Every time I use it there are air bubbles all over the inside so you cannot get a good reading.Do not know why this is . But my old one from another manufacturer never had this issue.

I bought this cheap and easy to use gadget for my koi pond. I was wanting to keep it under 6 ppt. I had followed the salt suggested application instructions but decided that, after applying 2 cups to my 2500 gallon pond (so, very little), that I’d like to measure it as I go, to be sure. I didn’t expect it to already be 6 ppt. I freaked! I went to the aquarium store to have them test the salinity with their fancier gadgets. I their test came out to zero. Relieved, but annoyed. This thing is utterly worthless to me.

Mine was not accurate which could be bad if I didn’t notice. I run a reef tank and hydrometer read 1.024. Took my water sample to my local fish store and it read 1.029 with a refractometer. No bubbles where present when I did the test. It is always rinsed with freshwater ro water before and after

I've been dissolving salt for 24 hours and when I went to read it it said it was 1.014sg so I added more salt. I went back a couple of hours later and when I retested it was still 1.014sg. I knocked the air bubbles out both time and it still doesn't change. IF YOU ARE FIRST STARTING WITH SALTWATER TANK PLEASSSEE BUY A REFRACTORMETER. Save up and spend the extra $10 dollar in order not have to deal with this.

Not sure how accurate it is, but it's a good reference point. I have a 2000+ gallon pond and I just put salt in it last month. This device says my pond is about 3ppt, which is ideal for pond fish and plants (3-5ppt is normal). Super easy to use. Just rinse with warm water afterwards.
