You really don't need this hood unless you enjoy shooting in the rain or something. But if you want to dress up your 50mm STM, this is pretty great quality and there's even a press-button release like some L lenses. Just get it only when there's a nice discount

My wife got this for her 5D Mk IV and absolutely loves it. There’s a “quick release” toggle that makes taking it on and off a breeze. Locks into place so it’s not just sliding around. You can inverse the lens hood when it’s not in use so it never has to leave your lens. Definitely worth the money.

Great lens hood. Easy to put on and take off. The only thing I've noticed is that there's a tiny gap at the back by the mount plate. If you don't have a weather-sealed lens/body, don't expect this lens hood to save you. However, it does a great job at keeping moisture and dust off the front element.

Perfect fit on the nifty fifty. Spend the extra dough and get a Canon OEM rather than a knock off. There is a latching mechanism on this lens hood that makes it secure on the objective. Very happy with the purchase.

I have a Canon 50mm f/1.8 prime lens. I needed a lens hood. So I bought the ES-68. Honestly, I don't know why lens manufacturers don't just ship lens hoods with all their lenses--but there you go.The hood is made of good quality material. It isn't felt-lined like some of their L-series lens hoods--but it doesn't seem any less effective for it. To connect it to the lens, I attach it, then rotate it 1/4 turn, and it snugly clicks into place. I shoot on a Canon 80D (cropped sensor), and I've never noticed any vignetting while using the lens hood. When I need to store my lens in my camera bag, I spin the hood around backwards, and attach it to the lens--so it takes up less space. If you've got the Canon 50mm f/1.8 prime lens, I recommend getting this lens hood to help reduce glare and lens flares while out shooting.

This is a great lens hood. Fits perfectly on what it is made for, which is the Canon EF STM f1.8 50 mm lens. I really like that when you are not using the lens, you can attach this hood backwards on the lens and it can then be stored while taking up a lot less room. In addition this has a nice quick release button for getting the hood off more quickly. Very nice. I only buy Canon lens hoods for Canon lenses; the quality is just better.

This lens hood is an exact fit for my EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Canon Lens. I made the desicion to go with the original Canon piece as opposed to a cheaper knock off due to the fact that I have original Canon Lens Hoods for different lenses. I always prefer the better build of the original. This lens hood is very solid, durable, and has a great matte black finish. The hood also has a great locking feature too so when you put it on it clicks and locks into place. There is a button on the outside of the lens hood that you press to release the hood (see photo). This lens hood does a great job at resisting flare in my at home studio as well as when doing walk-around photography. It can be reversed or put on backwards as to surround the lens which is great for transport so that it doesn't take up space. If you're not sure if this will fit your lens, go to Canons website and check compatability. If you have the 50mm f/1.8 STM Canon Lens, then I highly recommend you purchase this piece. If my review has helped you, please let me know! Thanks and happy shooting!

This product works fine, but there are far cheaper options out there. I had considered the cheaper option but went with the canon product and several had complained the other product had a small gap that could let in light. This product has that same gap. I have not noticed any issue due to that gap, however if i had to do it over i would have gone with the other model. I still give this 4 stars as the product itself is fine and i do not hold it against canon that other companies made good knockoffs.
