Awesome camping ax. Has a nice long handle that’s quite sturdy when threaded together unlike the stuff they made 20-30 years ago. Has a nice sharp head, with a mattock on the other side. Has a nice sharp knife, built into the handle as well as a Ferro rod and brass emergency whistle Was really impressed with the quality. I’ve tried several of the purple dragon products out and have been impressed by all of them.

This axe is very easy to wield thanks to it's light weight and grippy texturing on the handle. It has good balance for one handed use plus there's enough length to use both hands for increased power strokes. The axe head is sharp enough to do fairly deep cuts into wood. The pick is one of my favorite parts as it's a nice thick wedge that's strong and sharp enough to dig through roots and tough ground foliage. In the field it's always good to prepare the spot you'll be sleeping on, and this pick can make your bedding area more comfortable. The knife is also sharp with a coating to prevent corrosion. I found it easy to use the saw portion of the blade to make sparks with the provided ferro rod. The breaker at the end of the handle can be used to grind foods in the field like nuts or seeds or soften material and penetrate hard ground. One note is you'll need to carry a couple of small tool to tighten the axe head after heavy use. And of course a whistle is invaluable if you get lost or stranded and need to get attention for rescue. Unfortunately, there is no sheath. To safely carry the axe, especially one with a sharp tool on each end of the head, a sheath is a must. That's the reason for four stars.

We really wanted to like this camping axe multi-tool. At first glance, it feels solid and heavy-duty—even the plastic handle has a durable feel. The flint and whistle work well, and the saw portion is decent, which gave us some hope.Unfortunately, the rest of the tool didn’t live up to expectations. The knife is loose and wiggles in place, and neither the knife nor the hatchet blade came sharp enough to be usable right out of the box. Most disappointing was the axe head—it actually unscrews itself while trying to chop, making it not only frustrating but also unsafe. This had the potential to be a great all-in-one camping tool, but overall, it fell short. With some improvements in blade sharpness and design stability, it could be much better. As it stands now, we’d call it a well-intentioned idea with underwhelming execution.

This is a gimmicky camping tool that is useful to have around and great for geeky outdoorsmen like me who love such items. It has never been unusual for me to get laughed at for the unusual gadgets that I often end up with, but they become conversion starters if nothing else and more often than not they serve their purpose as useful tools. This is a small, light weight, and unique item that could easily be attached to your pack and carried along the trail on a remote camping trip.I like the versatility of this tool and the fact that it is light weight and compact. These attributes could also be a detriment also due to the possibility that it will be less durable than other, more robust, options. The listing indicates that the axe should have came with a sheath, but there was no sheath included in my order.

This is listed as a camping ax with pick, but I would term it more of a camping ax with adze since i think a pick as more pointy and this has a sharp, 2-3" horizontal blade on the side opposite the ax blade. It does work reasonably well for stripping small branches or cutting shaving for fire starting. To strip much bark, I think it would need to be sharpened quite a bit. That said, the ax blade has enough weight to do light chopping for fire making, though I'd recommend sharpening it. The ax comes in three pieces, the ax head, plus two handle attachments that screw together. One section can hold an included knife and screws to the hand, then sheaths into the ax head portion. Another section includes a ferrous rod inside and a glass breaker at the base of the handle. The knife isn't the sturdiest ever, but it's sharp enough for small tasks like cutting ropes or making fire shavings. The ferrous rod is large enough to use easily and makes plenty of sparks. The glass breaker is a dull pointy bit of steel that should do that job if you ever need to break a window. No spare, so way to test it. On the whole, this is a fair piece of camping equipment, and a decent fire making kit, though I'm not sure the pick/adze head is very useful. Maybe if you want to take it for a bit of light rock hounding, but I'm not sure how it would hold up to that kind of use.

The Camping Axe with Sheath Pick from the Purple Dragon Store is truly a backcountry multi tool in a space saving, light weight, portable package. As you can see in my photos: it is a sharp, aggressively designed axe which can be set up with a long handle or a short handle; it is a sharp knife with both a cutting edge and an aggressive saw tooth edge which can be set up with a long handle or a short handle; the handles safely stow the knife blade, a fire starter ferrite rod, and a hardened steel point. What elevates it to a five star multi backcountry survival tool is how the pieces fit together, precisely and tightly. The use of silicone rings at the screw together connection points results in a very tight connection that is easy to achieve and disassemble without a lot of effort. The axe head is a heavy, solid tool with a form that reminded me of a Viking axe when I used it to split campfire wood. I highly recommend the Camping Axe multi tool, if you do backcountry hiking and camping.
