The Cable Matters USB-C Ethernet Switch is the ideal solution for sharing wired network and Internet access with multiple USB-C and Ethernet devices. The switch combines the utility of a USB-C Ethernet adapter and the performance of an Ethernet switch into a single universal adapter.

Important Notes

  • This adapter is not compatible with the Switch game console.
  • The adapter is bus-powered through the USB-C port. The adapter must be connected to a laptop or tablet USB port, or a USB-C wall charger to function.
  • If the USB-C host is powered off or enters sleep mode, other computers and devices may lose network connectivity. To keep the adapter powered when the computer is put into sleep mode, disable power-saving settings on your computer’s USB ports.
  • Windows 7 PCs may need to download a driver from Cable Matters.

Was shown this by a co-worker after pulling out my plug-in mini 5 port switch. This guy is much smaller and lighter than my old switch and worked right out of the box (for both my windows 10 and 11). When connected to your USB-C port it acts as it's on NIC, you can run it like any other switch (I run it in static IPv4 to be able to connect to whatever system I need to that day) and I use my laptops built in NIC for internet when in an area where a hard wire connection is needed. It gets power through the USB-C port, which is fantastic for troubleshooting. I have plugged it onto a power bank and used it at sites where we needed to add a port to monitor the system for a couple of hours. I used it for about 2 hours and it drained my 20,000mah bank to 99%, I could not be happier with that.If you use a mini switch in your job at all (or even for personal needs) this is a great option, you will not regret it.

As it is 2nd repurchase , the product is what I know and extremely good. However, the shipment was not easily completed as it has incomplete address label. Better to review it how it was changed from what I typed in Amazon and how it printed on it.

Just what I needed, multiple ports of a switch on a usb-c Ethernet adapter. I’m bragging about this one to my fellow service technicians. This one item removes an Ethernet adapter, a switch and a power supply from an already overloaded Milwaukee tool back-pack. Less is often more! (Especially when your the one carrying all this stuff around every day)

I do a lot of new cluster implementation, and often require a small switch as networking isn't alway set up when I'm starting my work. This little thing is really useful, and takes up much less space in my traveling office than the old 5-port switch I used to carry. The best aspects of this are that it shows up as an Ethernet NIC on the host system (effectively making it a 5-port switch), and it's BUS-powered. Only thing I dinged it on was the plastic construction brings its sturdiness into question. Will probably be fine since the switch it replaced was also plastic and never failed despite living in a backpack for 3-years.

This switch has solved so many problems that I have had to tap into an ethernet network.I am a Controls Engineer and I program factory machines. Often I need to connect to the network on remote i/p devices when the main switch is in the main cabinet and too far to connect. I use this switch on my PC, then I use 2 ethernet cables and one female to female connector end to tap into the network at and device.

Tested with Arch Linux on x86_64, 6.0.y through 6.5.y kernels and Linux-Firmware 20220913 to 20230908. Kernel modules are auto loaded on reboot, interface just works under networkmanager or systemd-networkd control.Iperf3 testing shows 920+/- 30 Mbps using bbr congestion protocol on both ends, which is as good as you can expect from a properly working gigabit connection + usb3.Contrary to reports I have seen elsewhere for this device, it does NOT stall / crash your whole LAN when the USB host device reboots or powers off. However, it is very helpful to the stability of this device to turn off certain features using ethtool:ethtool -K tx off rx off scatter-gather off

Sometimes you need a mini-hub on your desk especially when on the move and perhaps needing to setup more than one device. This does what's expected and allows more than one ethernet device to be connected up to a MacBook.

Very happy with this network switch. It makes computer network troubleshooting much easier. I also use it when commissioning and troubleshooting solar inverters. Often times we run a single network cable to commercial systems, and being able to jump into the network at any device is very helpful.I do wish it had a couple standard USB ports, so I wouldn’t have to lug around an adapter, if and when I need one. It’ll be a long time until I don’t need that.I use it with my Dell XPS 13” laptop and it has 4 usb c /thunderbolt ports. I’ve also tested it with a 15” Mac book pro. Both work well.
