i have an HP work laptop and thunderbolt 5 Mac mini connected to an older (discontinued) thunderbolt 3 Mokin dock with Pebble usb speakers, mouse, keyboard, webcam, scanner and output to dual 2k monitors via displayport... and this switch works PERFECT. this is the WFH dream setup, and allows me to flip from laptop to the Mini for $60. the trade off is that i had to provide separate power to the laptop so that it keeps getting power from somewhere after i have switched away. I already had an Anker 240w charger for that.if you have a dock that works with two computers and you just need to change the ubc-c cord... this switch "should" work to make that dock switch to either computer with just a button push. then you just need to solve for constant power to each machine, because the power would switch too.i spent two months trying and returning 5 different KVM docks priced up to $500 and not a single one worked right, and this little beauty works for a fraction of that price!! im so impressed.piece of advice-- i tried a different (longer) thunderbolt 4 cord from the switch to the Mini and it did not work... it was a Silkland cord, perhaps those cords are not up to spec? but the shorter cords that came with this switch do work, so i had to rearrange my setup to make the short cable matters cord work (not a deal breaker for a mac mini, which is small enough to be moved around)i cant say this enough-- forget the KVM options out there. i spent probably 100 hours researching and never found one that worked for me, despite using chatGPT for tips and reading thousands of reviews from actual users and "Vine" reviews. KVM seems like such a simple idea... but they just dont work 100% for some reason. The mouse or keyboard drops out, flickering monitors, dropped handshake protocols... and issues came arise months after purchase. for that kind of money they need to work better.fortunately, this little switch did exactly what i need, for a dream price. Thank you Cable Matters!

I’ve been using the Cable Matters 20Gbps USB4 USB-C Switch, and I couldn’t be happier with its performance. It has worked flawlessly, seamlessly switching between my devices without any lag or connectivity issues. For reference, I primarily use this to switch an Apple Studio Display between an M4 Mac Mini, M2 MacBook Pro, and M1 MacBook Air. Of course it only supports two devices so I have it connected permanently to the Mac Mini and swap out the laptop connected based on whether I'm doing something for work or personal. One of the standout features is the included remote, which makes it incredibly convenient. I was able to place the switch out of sight in my setup, and the remote lets me toggle between inputs effortlessly. While the build quality feels a bit lightweight and somewhat cheap, this is a non-issue for me since it stays tucked away. What really matters is how well it functions, and in that department, it exceeds expectations. No issues, no hiccups—just a reliable, easy-to-use switch that does exactly what it promises. Highly recommend!

I had two laptops wired to the inputs. The output was wired to a USB docking station that powered three monitors, and a speaker system. The docking station also fed a USB 6-port hub. They all worked fine. If my Logitech mouse receiver was plugged into the docking station the mouse was erratic. I plugged the receiver directly into the laptops and had to manually move it when switching computers. After 3 months the wireless remote switch quit working and would not switch computers. I scrapped this and bought one with a hard-wired remote switch.

The Cable Matters 20Gbps USB4 USB-C Switch offers a reasonable build quality and includes two numbered USB-C input cables along with a built-in output cable. While the included cables are useful, I would have preferred if the output cable was not permanently attached. In my case, I needed to connect the switch to a docking station that already has a built-in USB-C port, which required purchasing a female-to-female USB-C adapter with the appropriate specifications to handle 100W power delivery.Performance & UsabilityThe switch functions as advertised, but not without some trial and error. I encountered an unexpected polarity issue, where I had to repeatedly rotate the USB-C connectors before achieving smooth switching between devices. Given that USB-C is designed to be reversible, this was quite tricky and could easily lead users to believe the product is faulty. A clearer explanation of this behavior in the manual would have been helpful.Documentation & User ExperienceOne major downside is the weak user manual, which lacks clear illustrations and troubleshooting guidance. For a device with such specific operational quirks, better documentation would significantly enhance the user experience.Final ThoughtsOnce set up correctly, the Cable Matters USB4 Switch performs well and delivers the expected 20Gbps speeds and 100W power delivery. However, the polarity sensitivity, built-in output cable, and inadequate documentation introduce unnecessary friction. A detachable output cable and a more comprehensive user guide would greatly improve the product. If you’re tech-savvy and willing to troubleshoot, this switch is a solid option. However, for plug-and-play simplicity, be prepared for a learning curve.

I got this switch for my Apple Studio Display in order to use with my Mac Mini M4 Pro and my work HP laptop. The picture works as expected but during some tests the PC would sometimes not see the speakers, microphone, and the camera. Then I remembered reading a while ago that USB 2.0 signals are present only on one side of the USB C connector (not sure if in all cases/devices though). Experimented with turning the connectors between the PC and the Switch and all works fine now. No need to disconnect and each time all peripherals are visible.

The switch itself does exactly what it says, and exactly what I needed. I have 2 laptops I connect to this switch, which then feeds into a Thunderbolt dock. Switching between the two works perfectly, and I couldn't be happier with the setup. That being said, the remote is a piece of garbage. Within days of setting everything up, the remote stopped working. I replaced the battery with a new one and it worked again, only to again stop working after maybe 3 days. The remote isn't a necessity, but if it's included I expect it to work. I'd give 5 stars if it weren't for the remote, so maybe just stop including it in the package?

Been looking for a thunderbolt switch (tried a few cheaper ones but none works). Took a chance on this one and it works!I have a LG 40WP95C monitor with two thunderbolt 3 laptops (Lenovo T480s and Dell Precision 5530). This switch connects to the Thurderbolt port of the LG and the two laptops connects to the two input ports and both laptops works at the full res of LG at 5120x2160@50Hz. The LG can do 5120x2160@72Hz but anytime I choose 72Hz, it drops the res to 3440x1440. So 50Hz it is.A Dell dock is daisy chained to the LG's thunderbolt out port to act as an hub, where the keyboard/mouse and sound card are connected. Both laptops can then share these devices. Now I finally have a thunderbolt KVM!The Lenovo is Windows 10 and the Dell is Windows 11.It should've been a 4.5 star due to it not able to handle 72Hz but I am happy to give it a 5 star instead.

Maybe I got lucky, but I only had to buy 1 female USBC coupler to my dock to the switch and then connect both laptops via USB-C cables and it worked as expected. Able to toggle between laptops without having to unplug/plug the dock to each laptop. I have 3 external monitors and I am able to use the laptop monitor plus extend to the 3 external monitors for a total of 4 (I believe the number of external monitors are dependent on your laptop and dock).Such a simple concept, but based on reading online this ability is still pretty hit or miss for a lot of folks. Very happy so far.
