It’s a great item for spot weather data. Would be five stars but instructions don’t come with the item and they’re not easy to find on the web. You will need instructions to operate the ADC.

I liked the idea of a multi-purpose instrument from Brunton, a designer and manufacturer of, I thought, quality instruments. It arrived and was defective out of the box. Amazon sent me another which was Dead On Arrival. After a few emails Amazon refunded the charge and provided a prepaid shipping label for the return. I did have the opportunity to study the user interface though, and it's way too complex. To do almost anything requires several button pushes, and the buttons cannot be accurately pushed with even thin gloves on because of their small size and no space between them.My old Suunto Vector does not measure wind speed, but it does everything else much more efficiently and can be operated wearing ski gloves. I will just have to continue estimating wind speed and appreciating the good design of the Suunto instrument, which has worked reliably for years and years.

I've had my Brunton ADC Summit for 20 years. It's been from the heat and cold of the Central / Southern California beaches, mountains and deserts, flying stunt kites, snow skiing, hunting, fishing lakes and rivers, offshore waters of the Pacific Ocean, to the waters of the Gulf of Mexico fishing and the heat rain and cold of South Texas hunting and fishing. It's beat up, heat stained, sweat stained but, dependable. It has never failed me. So, the year warranty doesn't mean anything unless you get a factory defect and they are good about fixing warranty issues from other reviews that I've read.Yes, Brunton's email response is slow, pick up the phone and call them they will eventually answer. The poor devil that answers the phone is polite but obviously overworked.Batteries last a long time (couple of years, depends on how much you use it). I wore out the battery compartment cover over the years and called them about purchasing one. They sent me a new one. Nobody had ever wore out a battery cover. The altitude is obviously barometric. If you need to be more precise than +/- 100 feet you need to spend a considerable amount of extra money to get a satellite instrument.Yes, the menu is not Microsoft intuitive because it was written by an engineer at least 20 years ago but, all you have to do is follow the steps.GREAT VALUE FOR THE PRICE!

Does not measure altitude accurately...not even close.

I bought this one as a replacement for the data center I lost recently. I've used it for years and find it to be a great all in one weather station. I also use it to keep track of altitude gain while hiking in the mountains. There are many more functions that are available, but that I rarely use them all. Navigating thru the menu can take awhile to get used to. Also, be cautious about the plastic rivet that holds the strap to the body. I think that it let go, which is how I lost my first one.

Best for the money

I had just a plain anemometer which I still have (more than a year now) and I decided that I needed to know more than just the wind speed. Turns out the features were indeed as advertised. It took me only 25 minutes to figure out the majority of the features (i.e: temperature history graph, barometric pressure graph, and storm alarms). This device can measure winds up to 89.4 miles an hour, which isn't shown on the specifications. The 12-hour forecast comes in handy when the barometer drops, and will beep if "Stormy" weather is predicted (The storm alarm must be turned on, simply by accessing the barometer feature, pressing "mode" for 2 seconds, and then turning it either on or off with the "set" button). The data log feature is also handy to have. Not to bad-mouth other reviews I have read, but this is a great product and anyone fascinated with weather should place the order; It's actually well worth the money.

I got this for Christmas to use while hiking in the Rocky Mountains and it works great. All the features work as advertised. The functions are all discoverable by pressing the buttons so no need to bring the manual along. Unlike another commenter I found the calibration to be straight forward and easy to do. It is worth noting the the device was calibrated and ready to use out-of-the-box. My only nitpick is the time it takes to reach the current temperature. It took almost 20 minutes for the device to go from 70 degrees to 40 degrees, it would be nice if you could set the averaging time like you can with wind speed. This is only a problem when first going outside, once it reaches the new temperature it's fine. I suspect the slow rate of change is intentional to prevent the temperature display from fluctuating while the handling the device.Overall the device is awesome and I recommend it for any outdoor enthusiast that wants to keep an eye on the weather or know how cold it got last night.
