Why Spot Heating Makes Sense in Your Home

You hastily get ready every morning, head for work, the office, or school, just when the central heating system has finished warming the entire house. It's about as inefficient as it gets. Spot heating solves that problem. No longer will you heat an entire home when you simply need a bit of comfort in the bath or dressing room, or any other room.

Efficient Heating Element

Even the most efficient central heating systems send heat up the chimney. But Broan spot heaters deliver every bit of energy back into your home. There's no external venting, so the electricity you convert to heat is delivered directly where you want it.

Simple, Safe, and Efficient.

Permanently lubricated motors are quiet and require no maintenance. They can be operated by a built-in adjustable thermostat or an optional wall-mount controller. Heaters may be converted in the field to a choice of wattages/voltages. And for safety, heaters are thermal overload protected and the complete heater assembly conveniently removes from the housing for cleaning.

Perhaps my fault for not understanding type of heat. Bought for guest bath in new house, intended to heat room prior to shower. Doesn't provide much heat unless standing directly below (perhaps that's the purpose). Also, temp sensor shuts down too readily which seems contrary to purpose of unit. Perhaps better design would direct heat into room, rather than allow heat to rise to sensor.

Bought two (model 162-M) to replace probably 30+ years old ones(162-C and some other where I did not check the model). In terms of quality I think is a downgrade - at least for the box and the ventilator cage: the old ones were more hermetic than these ones and I had to use a lot of 3M aluminum foil to make them as air leak proof as the old ones. The electrical box external screw (key 9 with part#99150545) is placed in the WRONG position - instead of being near the floor of the attic it should be near the top of the box(as mounted). I had to use a magnetic 1/4'' socket and a long screw to properly drive it while sitting in a very weird position (given that I had like 2 feet of space there). It would be much EASIER to screw the electrical box back while doing it in the attic if the leg of the box and the screw positions were swapped. Old box had porcelain type socket for the bulb, the new one some kind of plastic (again I feel is a downgrade). Also I managed to destroy one of the plastic pins that keep the damper working - mainly while putting the 4'' foil over the black square to cylindrical adapter the damper went off and I think I push it way to hard for that 1/8'' plastic pin. I drove a nail into the pin instead and figured out it won't work properly long term (the nail will most like rust so I have to order a new one ;)) In terms of noise - it's way better than the old ones and it looks like the new motors are rotating opposite to the old ones (162-C). In terms of safety, it looks it has two thermostats (for the lamp that is connected to the white wire) and another one that sits inside the box on a dark corner - too early to see how reliable they are.

My old Broan 162 fan was making a lot of noise, so I explored replacements for the motor/fan assembly. However, I wanted to replace the white cover too, and it turned out it was cheaper to buy this whole new fan/light and scavenge it for the two parts I needed. Easy to do, just swapped them out and into the old housing and it now works like new. I did need to clean 30+ years of dust out of the old housing, but didn't have to get into the attic to replace the whole unit.

We replaced an older heater extractor fan. I’ve included pictures of what the previous model looks like. Our ceiling has tile (previous owner) and so getting a bigger fan was going to require us to make a bigger hole in the ceiling and create a big mess. Because of the ceiling situation we decided to go with this models that would be a perfect fit. We purchased an open box and it was extremely reasonably priced ($30) and came with all the needed screws and materials.Just a friendly reminder to make sure you have a heated bulb for this and that you have electrician tape to make sure you are sealing Edges in the ducks. Also, we did not have attic access if that’s helpful. We were able to install it from inside the home.

This works as described. Not as noisy as I thought once installed. I live in Sask Canada where it gets to -40 in the winter, I have installed three back drafts to stop the cold air from coming in (all in nylon so they donot freeze or get brittle. The fan is powerful enough to keep them open when in use. (tested at -56 in 2014). Love having the light in the center where I installed an inferred bulb as this is in as shower.

after I had installed the fan /heater it stopped working! it was strange because I had a switch add a separate power source for both. So, trouble shooting was necessary. I found the common white wire has a fuse in the line feeding both. the fuse blow and is not replaceable. It only run for 5 minutes as a test; I think its defective. So, I cut it out. they do not sell a replacement. I could not see any use for it. What is nice is the unit has a heat limit switch that if the encloser gets to hot and your fan is not running it will automatically cycle the fan to cool down for a minute. This is a very nice exhaust fan with a heat lamp, the lamp put out a fair amount of heat if you're close. It has a large 4" vent pipe. I wired the fan with separate power source to the lamp and the fan with its own controller. I will buy another when I change my other bathroom over it is a good product. 5 stars

I always liked the heat lamps in hotel bathrooms, so I thought I would try one in my house. I love this thing, it makes the bathroom far more comfortable on cold mornings. The fan seems to work well and is not very loud. I installed a timer switch with my heat lamp for safety's sake. You will need to spend some time in your attic to install this, which can be pretty awful on a hot day, especially if you have fiberglass blown insulation in your attic. Some basic knowledge of electrical will be necessary to safely install this. I was able to install mine without hiring an electrician or HVAC worker, but it would have been a lot easier if I had just paid someone else to work in my miserable attic.

Installed the fan/light/heat lamp over 2 years ago and it still works like a charm. This is a must have for all bathrooms. Not only does it ventilate the humidity out when taking hot showers/baths, it lights up the room and keeps you warm when you come out during not so warm weather so you don't have to turn on your heater. Installation was easy. Just need an opening big enough to house the unit and it sits in place with springs if I remember correctly. I chose to use a transparent heat lamp bulb vs the traditional red heat lamp bulb, which I think is easier on the eyes, no need to transition from dim red lighting back to normal lighting. Only comment is that the fan is a bit noisy. Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.
