The tips did not line up and meet together when closed. The gauge is absolutely worthless. There is some screwed on metal piece that goes between the gauge and the one arm which obscures visibility of the gauge. It's purpose is hard to fathom. There is no screw attachment at the hinge to adjust tension. The thickness of the gauge varies. Just terrible build quality for what is supposed to be a precision instrument.

I got it to measure the OD of trees. Although it does open wide enough it’s not deep enough. It’s not a deal breaker as I can still use it. But would have liked it measure the width and depth as well. The quality of the calipers is good as was the service and time to get to me.

This is a well-made caliper I use it for measuring thickness on wood I turn on a lathe. The problem with this item is not the material but the calibration of the ruler better design would help this.

As a potter I Iook for accurate calipers without sharp points. This is it. Durable, and somewhat finished surface.

The workmanship of this product is very poor. It appears to have just been made in the backyard. The scale does not match actual measurement. Just very poor workmanship. I would not recommend this product it is made of metal but it is not the same product that is pictured, but it’s similar to it.The reason is marked with 20 inch is because it can open to 20 inches not that it’s 20 inch long.

I use these for ceramics and have found the contact points for the calipers a little problematic. Only up to a certain degree are the contact points any good for measuring. Passed a certain point, you have to use the point on the extreme south of the caliper contact point face. this is not accurate with the degree markings, but it can be worked around.Beside that, they are sturdy, weighty, and hold their place well when the adjustment screw is tightened. This is not one of those flimsy calipers that lose their place unless you super tighten the wing nut and screw. These are hand crafted, and bear the mark of the forger, caster, or company (not sure which).
