This thing is a beast. I suppose it works as advertised (although I never used it), but it is heavy and unwieldy. It's overkill of the average shade tree mechanic (me), so I returned it.

Lots of times, when doing disk brakes there is a spring on the end that you really don't want to take off and it's preventing you from sliding your expander tool in from the end. These times happen quite often and I just want a simple tool that will slip inside from the front and push them apart. Well this is the tool! Beefy, simple, and fast. So nice, this is the best and simplest tool I have found. The two caliper hooks also double as a hanger for the tool. I put it thru the holes and hang it off my tool box. My only complaint is it's made in China, so hopefully the welds and metal holds up over time.

Well there are those flimsy lightweight caliper tools that sometimes bend the plates, do not ratchet correctly and then there is this one. It weighs 8 1/2 pounds. and is of super ridged construction. If you like heavy duty tools this is the one for you. I love the straight forward ratcheting design that moves the plates completely parallel without any flex. This design would only be possible in a heavy duty tool. It also allows you to easily apply the pressure required in a controlled smooth action. Pushing the handle forward free's up the plate for 1st positioning and then simply use the handle to smoothly ratchet the pistons back. Most disc brake calipers are open on the ends so the length of the pressure plates is only required to be long enough to reach all the pistons. The plates on this on are 4 1/2" long. Long enough for 4 piston and even some 6 piston calipers. Unfortunately, my use is primarily for a quick change pad design that is closed on both ends for additional strength and the opening was only 4" long so the massive plates had to be shortened. It required a couple of hours with a mill and band saw to accomplish it but it was worth the effort as this is probably the best design out there. The good news is that most applications will not require any modification at all. It is extremely vesatile out of the box. It is was easy to dissamble and put back together. However in doing so There was 1 circlip missing and one was too large to properly hold the pinsin place. Not a problem for us, the reason for the 1 star deduction, but needs to be pointed out. Overall, this is a great tool, maybe the best one out there. It is very heavy for this type of tool, probably a little over designed but that is what makes it so great. Great for use in the shop, maybe a little much for travel.

It works but is heavy and cumbersome to use. It’s awkward trying to get the leverage to push the pistons back. It’s well made and seems like it will last. Takes up a lot of room in the tool box too. Bought due to poor reviews of other caliper separators and it did work. There’s probably a better tool out there but I haven’t found it.

It does the job; I used it on my Silverado to push the front wheel brake cylinders out of the way, and it worked fine. Over time it needs some grease on the threaded areas to avoid chaffing, but this is true of most tools. I'm happy with the purchase and would buy again from this company.

This is about as tough and strong as it gets. Almost an overkill. I mean, if the term industrial can be used, this would be the case. It is well made and easy to use. Just pull the lever slowly and it gets the job done.

Finally got around to doing the break job on the truck. In the past, I used a C clamp or channel lock pliers. While those worked, this tool is faster and probably less likely to damage your caliper. Comes with a pair of hooks for hanging your caliper when working on the brakes. Very nice and durable tool.

Does not work well. The design does not allow you to provide a sufficient amount of pressure to compress the caliper pistons. The lever handles are too small to get any leverage. It would work much better if it utilized a screw design instead of a lever crank.
