I bought my daughter this ZELARMAN set, and she loves it. It's always a good idea to have the right tool for the job, and if the way her Bonsai is thriving is any indication, this set is the right tool.

I bought a small bonsai trimmer kit which helped me keep my bonsai trees looking good.It is easy to use, and the tools were small and precise. The only problem was that the kit was a bit oily, which made it messy to handle. Overall, I think it's a good product and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to take care of their bonsai trees.

I always wanted to learn how to trim a Bonsai. So I joined the local Bonsai Society. After talking with people who have been doing this for decades, they informed me that set isn't worth a damn. The scissors are okay for small trimming on the exterior limbs but that's about it. The shovels and rake serve no purpose whatsoever. Honestly, after taking my first class, I wish I could return them and use that money to go towards the purchase of useful tools. Live and learn, I guess. Thankfully they weren't expensive so no big loss.July 2018 Edit - Husband here - The company was kind enough to reach out to us to discuss how they could make things better. They offered to send us the 20 pc. bonsai tool set. I explained to them that I didn't think there was anything in that set other than the larger scissors that would be beneficial to us, but I'd they insisted, then we'd be willing to give them a shot. When the new set arrived, we noticed that the packaging/case was a lot nicer. The small spades and other implements were nicer and sturdier. As expected the large scissors were the highlight. The spring-type snips appear to be sharp, but we already have 3 from the first purchase. Other than a couple of larger tweezers (which don't seem to be terribly useful), the set is largely the same. The way they get to 20 pieces in the set is that they include about 10 name plate-type placards that stick in the soil. I assume that's to put the plant name in the pot. That's a little janky, just to include them in the set to pump up the piece count, but that's just my opinion, I suppose.I upgraded the rating to 3*, not because of the increase in quality of the tools for the complimentary set they sent, but rather for their great customer service. So often these days, even when a product is great, it means little if the customer service is lacking when you need it.I'd prefer it if they offered concave branch cutters, and other more traditional implements. Unfortunately, everything in their bonsai line most accurately goes in the novelty category. Anyone who becomes even slightly educated in bonsai will find that there's not much here for them.

Every one of my siblings cares for a bonsai plant. And we all use this grooming kit to keep them clean and clipped. It’s an outstanding price for the 8 tools that come packed in a nifty faux leather pouch with a snap-button clasp. The shovel and spade are useful for spreading or layering soil; the tweezers for removing fallen leaves; the pruning scissors are good for trimming small shoots while the scissors can handle small, new-growth branches. This is also a nice kit for the bonsai beginner. Another advantage: this kit is TSA approved. I recently flew to visit bonsai-loving family, and packed my kit to help out with seasonal grooming. I had no issues clearing security in my carry-on bag.If you are small-pot gardening family – bonsai, , or other plants – this kit is well worth your money. It’s also a great little kit by which to introduce young children to the joy of indoor gardening.
