I've installed the Ice Maker Sensor Control Board for over a month now and so far so good. I'm getting ice again and the control board cost about 10% of the control board from Whirlpool. It was simple to install.

I swapped out both sensors and my ice maker started working again. This is way cheaper than the OEM part. The install was not very difficult, just a few screws and reconnecting the circuit boards to the power wire.The only thing I was nervous about was how the items were shipped. They were in slightly padded envelopes. I would have liked to have seen more padding but the items were not damaged so I guess it worked out ok.

While troubleshooting my KitchenAid icemaker, I made a rookie mistake as someone who has circuit design and implementation experience. One of the ports had a missing trace tab (the "V" port) and I failed to initiate the water valve. I wrongly assumed the two 'dots' to the left of the "V" port were part of the same trace and ended up shorting the 120v to ground and smoked my optics transmitter board. Luckily no other damage and the mistake was a $24 mistake.I received the new control boards along with a replacement icemaker unit and viola... frosty once again. The icemaker unit had a failed heater (rusted, no continuity) which was the root cause of the issue, resulting in frozen ice extraction and after clearing the mold, it subsequently would not open the water valve.The only suggestion for the manufacturer would be to change the etching for the circuit revision. Why? The control boards I replaced were OEM from 2002 and etched revision of the replacement is an earlier verison of the circuit board, or is it? This detail mismatch is common for Chicom manufacturers who copy, not invent circuits, even simple ones like this one. At first, I wondered if an outdated circuit was copied. But it works so no worries. This circuit is so simple BTW it reminds me of the old Radio Shack NNN-in-One kits that taught simple optical circuits. Buy with confidence. I'll report back if longevity is an issue.

PERFECT!!Functionality - The infrared beam is restored! Ice filled to the top overnight and stopped. Day nine as of this post and no issues.Fit – Perfect fit. The are a faithful reproduction of the OEM parts (see pics). The receiver control board does not interfere with my ice maker On/Off toggle switch. I have a Whirlpool side-by-side just like in the video linked to below.Durability – Unknown long term, but on day nine and so far so good.Price - OEM part kit is around is $230!! Yikes!! I do not expect 20 years out of this aftermarket product like my original OEM but if I get 3-5 it is still a value.Ease of Installation – Plug and play. It is just a matter of unscrewing the boards and unclipping their harnesses. There is a video demonstration of this very control board in a whirlpool refrigerator. Google: “How To: Whirlpool/KitchenAid/Maytag Ice Level Power Control Board Kit W10757851”Download the PDF “WHIRLPOOL & KITCHENAID IN-DOOR ICE SYSTEM” (see pic attached). This OEM booklet will assist in successfully troubleshooting and diagnosing malfunctions for in-door ice system so you can return it to proper operational status. There are many things that can go wrong. This booklet covers all of them. Replacing the controller boards is just one of the solutions.

The original optical boards failed on my aging fridge. Wanting ice, and not wanting to spend the ridiculous price ( shame on you Whirlpool) for original parts, I chose these clone aftermarket parts, for a sensible price. I have no idea how long they will last. But, I do know these things: 1. The parts appear to be of good design and quality. The circuit board is nicely laid out, the soldering is perfect, the board is of good quality, and the parts fit perfect. 2. They are dead easy to install. a few minutes max. 3. At least for now, they function perfect. I have again, finally, a full ice bin. 4. The instructions included are good. If you need the instructions, use them. But, is simple job. DO verify that your icemaker is actually working on its own before saying these parts did not fix your issue. If your ice maker itself has failed, these parts, and all the desire in the universe, will not make ice.
