The B&K Precision 890C Dual Display Handheld Capacitance Meter is a digital meter that measures capacitance to 50mF and has operation modes that include tolerance sorting mode for component sorting, relative mode to remove stray or offset values, and manual- and auto-ranging modes for user flexibility. A compare mode, which supports 25 sets of High/Low limits, provides a means to sort capacitors without needing to set meter each time. It also includes a hold feature and Min/Max Average function. The 4-1/2 digit LCD is dual level with an 11,000-count primary display and 10,000-count secondary display allowing for multiple measurements to be displayed at once and is backlit for readability in low-light conditions. Software to configure, view, and log results can be downloaded for free and a mini-USB interface cable (included) allows data to be transferred to a PC. A tilt stand provides position flexibility for operation and viewing and the over-molding rubber case protects the meter. The meter uses a 9V battery (included) and the display displays a low battery indicator. It is safety certified in compliance with International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 1010-1. The meter measures 7.5 x 3.5 x 1.6 inches/190 x 90 x 41 mm (H x W x D) and weighs 0.77 lbs./350 g. with battery. (H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.)

In general, a meter with a category IV rating will provide more protection against transient voltages than a meter with a lower category rating.

This is one of those tools that do one thing, but they do it very well. It measures capacitance, consistently and more important, accurately. It also tests accurately in the pF range which you typically can't do effectively (or at all) with most other consumer-level testers.It comes with two short leads, a USB cable to connect to a computer, nine volt battery and an instruction manual.The meter is self-ranging, it figures it out for you, and displays the answer fairly quickly. You can insert small capacitors into slots at the bottom, and it has memory functions and other abilities to become part of a test suite, which I haven't used.I have a PEAK ESR meter and while it will test capacitors (and I love it, BTW), it isn't the most accurate nor the most consistent for measuring capacitors (not to mention it's only for electrolytics). This compliments it pretty nicely and is reasonably priced for this type of equipment.Highly recommended for those who need to measure all kinds of capacitors for precision work, or for hobbyist who enjoy rebuilding old equipment.
