I've worked with tools my entire life and I always appreciate quality and this is it. This star setter is top tier, well thought out/made and beautiful. Don't let it's price make you think otherwise...it is Park Tool quality ot better. Proud to own this one!

The information on the webpage says they provide instructions, but there were no instructions in the box. I installed a star nut into my fork without an issue, but I didn't realize that the threaded piece wasn't screwed all the way into the silver piece. I assumed that since it was already screwed in when it came in the box that it was ready to use. As a result, the star nut installed into the fork lower than it should have been. Thankfully, the stem screw I used was just long enough to start catching the threads on the star nut, but I don't think it's as tight as it could be.I read the other reviews and noticed that some other people had bad luck with the machining of the tool such that the silver piece wouldn't slide through the orange part, but I didn't have any issues. I think the tool looks durable and I will be able to use this while working on customer bikes in a volunteer community bike shop. However, I took away one star because there were no instructions provided, which led to improper installation. At least I know better now.

I just bought a new Fox fork and needed to install a star nut. My biggest concern was in getting the nut hammered in straight. I looked at others and this looked to be the best one for the price. The PT version was just too expensive since I'll only be using this very rarely. I was pleasantly surprised by how high quality this was. Due to the gaskets on the inside of the tool it slide perfectly on my forks steerer tube without any play or slop at all. It is a extremely precise fit so the gaskets grab a little so you just have to be patient and put it over the tube slightly slow and not just slam it on. I saw some others mention that they used a light coat of grease to help it go over their steerer. I didn't need to use any grease but I can see how that would make it easier if someone was having trouble getting it on their fork. I just used my soft faced mallet and gave it about four or five good whacks and the star nut was seated perfectly. I used a caliper to measure how far down it was in the steerer tube and it was the same distance as the star nut that was in the Fox fork that came with my bike. The nut was straight and everything went smooth. My fork came with a star nut included so I used that but I looked at the star nuts included with this tool and they look and feel as high quality as the star nut that Fox included. I'm very happy with this purchase even though I will barely get any use out of the tool.

While there are techniques to install star nuts without specialized tools, I didn't want to chance it with my new fork. This tool worked great for me. I was a bit hesitant based on some reviews citing poor tolerances and build quality. The unit I received (November 2024) was well built with tight tolerances, and drove the star nut in perfect alignment. Great value too.

It does the job and it's inexpensive. However, an improvement would be to have tabs on the outside of the sleeve it to make it easier to press down on the sleeve and keep it in place while hitting the middle section. Be sure not to put the star nut in backwards, I did. The concave part faces out.

This is one of those tools that more or less fall in to the Pass/fail category for me. Not complex, has a very singular and niche usage, and it either does what it is supposed to or it doesn't. In this case, it does exactly what it is supposed to. In my personal case I used it to set a star-nut in a Manitou mezzer pro fork. Sleeve fit perfectly but a little snug around the steer tube, and the insertion depth using the tool was identical to the insertion depth on my stock from the factory fork. In general the biggest risk would be deforming the silver cylinder (which is why you would usually use a synthetic hammer for this) but even using a metal hammer (I'm lazy, they are faster) the cylinder had no mushrooming at the head. All in all, I can't see *any* reason to buy a more expensive version of this tool for home use. Maybe long term if you are installing hundreds of star nuts it would start to show more wear than a more expensive version, but if you just need something to do work on your home bikes, this will do exactly what you want it to do at an incredibly reasonable price.

Works and fits as expected. This was used to replace fork and star nut in Liv/Giant Amity e+1, the tool fits real nice and smooth in and over fork tube. Star nuts look pretty good and hopefully rust protected.
