I have a number of monitors that are 8 years old or so that don't have hdmi connectors. I purchased this item so I could connect one of them to my laptop that has an hdmi output to be used for an external monitor. When I connected the hdmi converter the screen displayed "THIS FORMAT IS NOT SUPPORTED".i tried it on two different monitors - one Hewlett Packard and one Dell. Both screens showed the same message. I didn't bother to return it because it was less than $10 and wasn't worth the trouble. It was most disappointing...

I needed an adapter to take the VGA output of my computer and convert it to HDMI for a new HDMI only monitor. This does the opposite so is useless to me. On top of it, I can't return it without it costing me more than I paid for it when all is said and done. Free return options are to stores that are nowhere near me and frankly are not worth the effort to deal with for a return. All I wanted was a shipping label so I can stick it on the thing and drop in a UPS box. So I guess I'm stuck with 2 of these useless adapters and out $20. Thanks.

1st one didn't work, replacement arrived 2 days later and that one worked. Had to check audio setup on the computer and figure out audio settings on the TV, after that it worked fine.

I got this HDMI to VGA adapter for a 2006 VGA 4:3 monitor, which works well with 720p and under. The adapter itself comes with the charging cord and is very useful; however, it didn't work when the HDMI connection was 1080p. Through another adapter, I was able to downscale the connection to 720p, which makes the picture appear on the monitor. The audio part of the adapter works but cannot be altered with headphones. Also, the adapter doesn't need to be plugged in at 720p, but every experience is different, and that might not be the case for others.

This can be a life saver when you need a display and only the VGA port is available

Uses micro-USB for power (hence my assumption that it's older). But works great. Decent resolution and the sound is good.

I bought a 2016 Epson 535 and it works absolutely perfectly. I couldn't be happier. I bought the projector for around $235 refurbished, attached this converter/dongle to it and my Firestick and viola! As perfect a picture as I could hope for from older technology. The projector has a HDMI port but for whatever reason is not directly compatible with the Firestick. So this little miracle saved the day and saved me a lot of money by not having to purchase a newer, more expensive projector. Great quality. Have had it up and running for 3 months and never a glitch. It does require power, so the the firestick and projector. So, I replaced the ceiling fan in the movie room with 2 duplex outlets encased in a surface mount box. If you don't know what I'm talking about, please call an electrician. Anyway, works perfectly and I didn't have to run wires up through the ceiling and into the attic and down the walls. Just plug in right next to the ceiling mount. I'll attach pics. Enjoy your home theater on a budget!

Well after six years of use, my amazing $1,300+ Optoma HD 3D DLP projector's HDMI ports both quit working last year and I thought it was done for. So I replaced the projector but didn't have the heart to get rid of it. Since selling the new one (along with the house it was attached to) and moving to another place, I decided to give it the old college try - I checked out a do it yourself youtube video to repair the HDMI ports. After spending many hours taking the projector apart, heating up the motherboard with a heat gun and putting it back together (which I wouldn't recommend to most people), it still wouldn't work. Fancy that.So after that great learning experience I called Optoma (very helpful techs). Little did I know, the VGA port also provided an input with 1080p HD quality. And the tech suggested I try that. Well if you're reading this, you probably already knew that could work, with an adapter of course. And so I tried this one and it worked beautifully, at least with my blu-ray player.Apple TV didn't work with it though, and I was sad. I thought it was an updated HDCP compliance thing that could block the digital to analog conversion. But hey, I missed something in the adapter instructions (somewhere in the product description). It says to plug up the mini-USB power supply cord, or else it might not work right. They were correct! I plugged in the power and voila! Apple TV works fine. And with the little 3.5 audio jack port, the audio sounds great too. I really needed something like that because I'm using my ancient, still works great, pre-HDMI Kenwood receiver. I just can't get over how a $10 converter redeemed my broken projector and old receiver and saved me the cost of hundreds of dollars to repair the HDMI ports. Great product! It's been many years since I've posted a review here, but I just had to this time. Couldn't be happier!
