2000 Xterra: The Beck/Arnley is not long enough to engage the switch. I went with the FACET 7.6115 switch from Rock Auto. It solved the problem.

The switch worked fine when I tested it on the bench with a multimeter. However, the plunger throw was not long enough to close the switch when installed in the transmission. Seeing all the positive reviews I could be an isolated case. I ended up breaking the switch trying to seat it farther, so be careful not to over-tighten.Update. I ended up installing the FACET 7.6115 switch from Rock Auto and the reverse lights work now.

Great Price Point and works well. OEM was three times the amount. Make sure you go online and watch some of the YouTube videos on how to install as its tough to get the torque needed to remove the original one.

I replaced the switch myself and didn't take very long. My truck had a faulty switch where I had to hold the manual stick shift in the R position in order to activate the back lights. Not a big deal but very awkward when in tight parking spots having to crane my neck around to not hit anyone. You can install this yourself if you have the following tools: Deep 19mm socket, wire snips, and ratchet wrench.Get under your truck (I didn't even need to jack it up) find where the switch is, near the top of the transmission closer to the engine. Google the location of the switch so you don't pull out the wrong one. Clip the (2) wires from the plastic wire connector (DO NOT CLIP THE WIRE HARNESS WHICH IS PART OF THE TRUCK), remove the old switch with the deep 19mm socket. Be careful here, I had a couple of different deep sockets and had to use the one that was medium deep and not too deep. It's a tight fit between the cab frame and the transmission in that location. Now dissassemble the plastic wire connector from your new switch so that you are left with 2 bare wires with the slot type wire ends. The plastic wire connector snaps together very easily but don't force it apart. Fit the new switch and wires inside your deep 19 mm socket to test that it'll fit. Get back under your truck and hand screw in the new switch with the deep socket. After hand tightening, insert your ratchet and tighten the rest of the way, DON'T OVER TIGHTEN!While under your truck re-assemble the plastic wire connector and connect back to the vechicle wire harness. You're done, test your lights.TIP: Practice assembling the plastic wire connector while your not under the truck so you know how everything fits. Don't force anything or the plastic will break. If you have the tools already, this will take 15 minutes to install. Go to Sears or Harbor Freight to buy single 19mm deep socket if you don't have one.
